A Weekend in The Garden of The Gods
My husband and I have a hard time disconnecting from work. We both have a tendency to overfill our schedules, and we haven’t quite learned how to say no as often as we should. I’ll admit that I am far worse than my husband when it comes to these problems, but let’s just say we both inherited the workaholic gene. 2015 was a whirlwind year filled with high and low points, but our busy schedules had us running on fumes by fall. In October, we decided it was time to clear our schedules, turn off our phones, and get away from our normal lives for the week. My husband threw out the idea of heading to Colorado, so we called our family and friends who lived in the area for suggestions. Nearly every single person suggested a trip to the Garden of The Gods, so we booked our tickets, packed our suitcases, and dreamed about a whole week without work deadlines, alarm clocks, and text messages.
We knew that we’d made a great decision the moment we arrived at the Garden of The Gods Club and Resort. As soon as we stepped out of the lobby, we were greeted with a refreshing breeze, the serene sounds of nature, and this stunning view. Yep, that’s the view from the pool!
The resort is built on the edge of a hill, so every room has an unobstructed view of the Garden of the Gods park and natural red rock formations. As much as we loved the view, we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere just as much. The resort has a peaceful atmosphere that makes you feel like you have the entire space to yourself.
On most of our vacations, we’ll pack each day to the brim with activities, but we decided to take a low-key approach to this trip. While we scheduled a few dinners with friends and family in the area, we spent most of our time relaxing in our room and enjoying the view. The weekend’s hazy weather and our room’s cozy blankets and crackling fire created the perfect atmosphere for catching up on my reading list.
I wish I could put it into words, but I just felt compelled to slow down and relax during this trip. When you’re surrounded by so much natural beauty, it’s hard to worry about the little anxieties of everyday life. I mean, how you can feel stress when there are tiny bunnies hopping outside your room at all hours of the day?
Outside of our room, the resort has beautiful decor, fantastic dining, and of course, jaw-dropping views. While we didn’t have time to enjoy the golf course, recreation center, or fitness facilities during our trip, it’s definitely on our to-do list for our next visit. We did, however, squeeze in a morning at the full-service spa, and let me tell you it was life-changing. I am not exaggerating. I had the world’s most incredible facial, and my outlook on skincare and beauty products has been forever changed. I’ll be doing a full post tomorrow on all of the skincare wisdom I learned during my facial, but I am telling you that you must schedule an appointment for a facial with Rebecca if you are in the area. She is the BEST, and you will absolutely not regret it! My husband was spoiled with a massage while I got my facial, and let me tell you, he was singing the praises of the spa all the way home!
If you’re feeling overwhelmed with life, I highly encourage you to take a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Even a few days away from social media notifications, email alerts, and annoying alarm clocks will help you relax and regain your energy. If possible, try to get away from your normal environment and find a calming place filled with natural beauty. If you’re not sure where to go, I highly suggest the Garden of The Gods Club and Resort in Colorado Springs. After only a few days, my husband and I felt relaxed and recharged for life. I’m already itching to get back to the serene environment, so don’t be surprised if you see me planning a trip to Colorado Springs in the near future!
