After four years of hard work and way too many all-nighters, my husband has officially graduated optometry school and is now an optometrist! I can’t even describe how proud I am of my husband’s dedication to his program. The workload is intense to say the least, and the past four years of his schooling have been quite the adventure. We’ve survived several 3,000 mile cross-country moves and four rotations in different cities, and my brilliant husband has completed all of his board exams and earned his diploma! Did I mention he was also awarded the highest low vision rehabilitation award in the nation and the “most likely to strike it rich” award? #ProudWife right here! After four stressful years of studying and sacrifice, my husband successfully completed his goal of becoming an optometrist! I think it’s important to celebrate accomplished goals, so we headed to beach after his summertime graduation for a weekend of sunshine, sand, and lots of smiles!
After living in Southern California for four years during his optometry program, we knew exactly where we wanted to go. Crystal Cove State Park is a stunning part of Newport Beach, and its national park status has kept the water and coastline in pristine condition. The brilliant blue sky and light breeze were just what we needed to unwind from four years of stress.
We didn’t want anything to ruin our day at the beach, so I packed all of the healthy essentials needed to keep us safe and comfortable. I picked a few new bottles of my favorite sunscreens, facial cleanser towelettes and a mini first-aid kit. The Neutrogena Beach Defense spray sunscreen is the perfect way to avoid sunburns on your body in the summertime. The spray nozzle creates a fine mist that allows you to cover your entire body in sunscreen quickly and easily. We both have oily, sensitive facial skin, so we opt to use Neutrogena Age Shield sunscreen for the face. My mom always told me it’s better to be safe than sorry, so I had to pack a mini first aid kit from Johnson & Johnson. It contains Band-Aids, alcohol wipes, and gauze to clean and protect any wounds. After a few hours running along the beaches playing frisbee with my husband and his best friend Clay, the first aid kit definitely came in handy. Now, everyone knows the horrible sticky, sweaty, salty feeling that your skin can sometimes have after a day at the beach. To get rid of any sweat and sunscreen residue, I recommend packing makeup remover or cleansing towelettes. My current favorite is the Aveeno Positively Radiant line. After a quick swipe across your face, your skin will be refreshed in no time!
We were all smiles the entire weekend. When you put in time, effort, and dedication required to accomplish a big goal, you deserve a big celebration! The perfect California weather, bright blue water, a few dozen fish tacos, and quality time with friends combined to make the perfect weekend getaway. I think our weekend at the beach was exactly what the newly graduated doctor needed, and the perfect way to celebrate his accomplishments!
Don’t forget to #CelebrateEveryGoal this summer- including fun sporting events like the The Big Soccer Game! Soccer is so much fun to watch, and my husband and I are cheering for the USA team! We’re crossing our fingers and saying our prayers that USA will defeat Germany! While you prepare for the game and all of your summer celebrations with family and friends, don’t forget to stock up on summer essentials from Walgreens! From now until July 26, 2014, Walgreens Balance Reward Members can earn 3,000 points when they buy $15 of select Johnson & Johnson products from specially-marked end-caps in Walgreens. Balance Reward points can be traded in for coupons off your next purchase, so receiving 3,000 points is like getting $3 back from your $15 purchase. Such a great deal!
