One of the perks of working from home is that no one knows if you’re working from a desk or a lounge chair by the pool. The weather has been so been so beautiful over the past few days, so I’ve been spending a few hours each day working in my “summer office” AKA at my community’s pool. The bright sunshine, beautiful scenery, and peaceful sounds make boring work tasks a little more bearable, and I’ve actually been motivated to wake up each morning and go the “the office.” It doesn’t hurt that the standard work uniform is a bikini, off-the-shoulder sundress, and cat eye sunglasses!
Working by the pool also has another advantage: breaks are way more fun. Instead of more normal work break where I’m grabbing a snack from the fridge or catching up on my favorite YouTube channels, I’ve been splashing around in the pool and binge reading a new book. It has been absolutely amazing. Even though I live in a beautiful state, I tend to spend most of my time cooped up in a dimly lit home office. It’s been so nice to spend more time outdoors and soak up the sunshine!
Bright blue skies, crystal clear water, dreamy palm trees, and colorful flowers are definitely an upgrade from my office’s lackluster decor and fluorescent lighting. The only downside to my tropical poolside office is the unpredictable summer weather. Florida summers can go from gorgeous and sunny to a torrential downpour in minutes, so I always bring an emergency plastic bag for my laptop and the biggest umbrella that I own. Still, I can’t complain. This view is pretty hard to beat, and it makes my overflowing email inbox seem a lot less scary.
Even though I’m mainly sitting in the shade underneath an umbrella, I always, always wear sunscreen. Even if I’m not in a bikini, my off-the-shoulder sundress still leaves a lot of skin exposed to the sun. My husband and I went on a Caribbean cruise with my in-laws a few months ago, and they had their bags stocked with Hawaiian Tropic sun products. We ran out of our sunscreen, and so we stole a little bit of their supply.
