There’s something about a smoky eye that instantly makes any outfit more exciting. It’s easy to be intimidated by such a dramatic eye look, but it’s actually quite simple with the right products and a little practice! One of my go-to summer makeup looks is a bronze smoky eye paired with a glossy nude lip. Trust me – if I can do it, you can do it. I may be a beauty blogger, but I stick to quick and easy makeup most days. This tutorial can be completed in five to ten minutes and only features products that can be found at the drugstore, including my new favorite drugstore mascara and foundation!
The first step for any good makeup look is to create a flawless base to work with. It’s no secret that I’ve fallen head over heels for Rimmel’s Stay Matte Foundation this spring. The smooth mousse texture provides full coverage with a satin finish that keeps me oil-free all day long. It also doesn’t hurt that you can pick it up at Walmart for a little over $5! This foundation will cover most of your trouble areas, but I like to use a lighter pink-toned concealer to brighten my undereye circles.
After hiding all of your trouble spots, I like to contour beneath my cheekbones and along my hairline and jawline with a slightly shimmery golden bronzer. Rimmel’s Natural Bronzer in Sun Dance provides the perfect warm glow without being too shiny or orange. Add a pop of color to your cheeks with a neutral pink blush and add a swipe of a champagne highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones, along the bridge of your nose, and above your cupid’s bow.
Thank you, makeup. I’d look like a zombie without you.
Now that you’re looking healthy and glowy, let’s get down to business. It’s smoky eye time. Gather a cool-toned brown eyeshadow quad, a reddish-brown eyeshadow pencil, and a super black mascara and gel eyeliner.
I love to use the Rimmel eyeshadow quad in Smoky Brun for this look. The shadows are smooth, pigmented, and blend easily. Combined with the Scandaleyes eyeshadow pencil, this eye look lasts all day long with minimal smudging or signs of wear. I’ll be showing you a step-by-step look into how I create my perfect bronze smoky eye in the picture below, but here is a picture for your reference showing which shade I use in each quadrant of the eye.
The first step of the eye look is to draw the desired shape of your smoky eye onto your lid with the Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeshadow pencil in Bad Girl Bronze (Side Note: I love this product, but I would also buy it soley for the name). Use your finger to smudge the product over the entire lid and blend into the crease of the eye. Next, use a flat shader brush to pack the golden bronze shimmer shade all over the lid. To make the look a little more dramatic, use a fluffy crease brush to blend in the darkest shade in the quad into the outer corner of the lid and along the crease of the eye. Finish the look with a slightly winged line using the Rimmel Scandaleyes gel eyeliner in Black and two or three coats of Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam mascara in Carbon Black.
The Scandaleyes Retro Glam mascara is pretty awesome if you ask me. It adds volume and length to my lashes without getting clumpy. I also love that the mascara wand’s shape really helps to curl my lashes as I apply the product. I like to keep this bronze smoky eye wearable for daytime, but it’s easy to deepen the look! If you want to add even more drama tot he look, add a pair of false lashes or use the darkest eyeshadow shade along the entire lid.
You can’t have a true smoky eye look without a matching nude lip. My nude lip combo of choice is Rimmel’s Lasting Finish by Kate lipstick in 113 topped with Rimmel’s Stay Glossy lipgloss in Non-Stop Glamour. The peachy nude lipstick gives the perfect long-lasting matte finish, and the sparkly nude gloss makes you lips look twice as big. Any product that’s designed by Kate Moss is good enough for me, but this line of lipstick is quickly becoming my favorite at the drugstore.
And that’s it. A simple but totally beautiful look for the summer months that’s bound to turn a few heads. Your friends will never believe that you pulled off such a glam look with only drugstore makeup! If you decide to recreate this look, be sure to tag me in the photos and add the hashtag #BeautyInspiration! I’d love to see your beautiful faces rocking a smoky eye and nude lip!
