How To Beat The Heat And Humidity + Dove Clear Tone Challenge!
Summer is nearly over, but it’s still in the nineties here in Florida. As someone who was born and raised in Florida, I should be used to the crazy subtropical climate, but living in Southern California for three years has completely spoiled me. Over three years, I think I saw it “rain” (not real rain- just the mist that Californians call rain) maybe five or six times, and it was 78 degrees and sunny (and no humidity!) probably 80% of the time.
Coming back to the relentless rain and never-ending humidity and heat has forced me to accept a few sad truths about living in this climate, and I’ve had to change so many parts of my daily routine. I’ve listed the sad truths I’ve been forced to accept and my best tips for dealing with the heat and humidity!
Your makeup is going to melt away.
There’s no avoiding it. When you’re walking around outside in 100+ degree weather, you makeup is not going to last; however, I’ve learned a few tips that will prolong your makeup by several hours! Use an oil-control makeup setting spray before and after applying your makeup. Steer away from dewy finish products because let’s be honest, you’re going to look dewy no matter what foundation you’re wearing. Also, be sure to set your makeup (especially your T-zone) with a setting powder to keep it in place for as long as possible!
You will get caught in the rain on a weekly (if not daily) basis.
If you live in Florida or another rainy area, you probably have an umbrella or two in your car at all times. The second I see rain, I know that my hair, makeup, and shoes will be ruined. I always carry a hairbrush, hair ties, and a mini hairspray bottle just in case I get caught in a storm. For my face, I try to wear waterproof mascara on rainy days and carry around makeup remover wipes just in case. Floridians basically live in sandals anyways, but if you happen to be wearing nice shoes, be sure to bring a backup pair of flip flops that you don’t mind getting wet!
Your hair will never look good for more than thirty minutes.
It’s just the sad truth about living in a humid area. Your hair can look perfect in your house, and the second you walk outside it will turn into a frizzy, greasy, poofball. I recommend using dry shampoo when you feel your hair getting a little greasy, and lots and lots of hairspray if necessary! As I mentioned earlier, sometimes it’s better to just admit you’ve been defeated and switch to a ponytail.
You need a REALLY good deodorant.
While it’s especially important in hot regions, let’s just say that this fact should be a universal truth. If you want to have friends, you need an exceptionally good deodorant. Since moving back to Florida, I’ve had to switch to stronger deodorant brands to combat the heat. Let’s just say it hasn’t been pretty. The few brands that I’ve tried have been effective at preventing sweat, but I’ve experienced a lot of irritation and excess drying from their formulation.
I went to the store recently to find a new deodorant brand that would be just as effective without being drying or irritating to my skin, but I couldn’t seem to decide between the hundreds of options at the store. I decided to ask friends for suggestions, and then I got the opportunity to be part of the Dove Clear Tone challenge. During the challenge you have to ditch your normal deodorant and switch to Dove Clear Tone Skin Renew deodorant for two weeks. Dove’s soothing formula with calendula and sunflower seed extracts is supposed to provide 48-hour wetness and odor protection, soothe irritation caused by shaving, and reduce underarm marks.
The challenge sounded like a perfect fit for my current situation, so I raced back to the store. That’s when I noticed that while most of the other brands were completely in stock, the Dove deodorant section was nearly sold out. You can always tell that items are either really good or at least really popular if they’re hard to find at the store. I grabbed the last Dove Clear Tone Skin Renew deodorant in the store, and the challenge began! My first impressions are all positive. I like the scent, texture, and formulation so far, and I can’t wait to keep you guys posted on my results. Hopefully I’ll find a new holy grail deodorant for us!
