There’s something magical about spending a few days at a nice hotel. It’s like the stress of the world melts away after a few nights in a new environment, and the fluffy beds, scrumptious room service, and beautiful atmosphere certainly don’t hurt either. Last month, my husband and I had the chance to spend a weekend at the gorgeous Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando, and our short staycation made a world of difference towards lowering our stress levels and adjusting our mood. Romantic Weekend Getaway in Orlando at Loews Portofino Bay
The thing that I love about the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is that despite only being a half-hour drive from my home, it feels like it’s a world of its own. The architecture and decor are gorgeous, the customer service is superior (and not the least bit snooty), and the quiet charm of the hotel is instantly relaxing. After a short walk past the hotel’s signature waterfront court, we made our way to our stunning room.
Every detail in the room was luxurious without feeling stuffy and relaxing without being too casual. It was the ideal resting place throughout the weekend – especially since the staff completely spoiled us with room service surprises! There are few things in this world that make me happier than a plate of chocolate strawberries, and they were exactly what we needed after a long day at work.
While the room was pretty amazing, the resort itself is equally amazing. You could easily spend a few hours strolling around the hotel’s property exploring the gardens, pools, shops, and restaurants, and there is a picture-perfect backdrop around every corner. Despite being in the center of Orlando, you really feel like you’re in your own private world. After walking through every inch of the Loews Portofino Bay, my husband and I met Michelle, my aunt Sonia, Stephanie, and Kyle by the pool, and it made for a perfectly relaxing afternoon. Beautiful scenery, great conversation, and a virgin pina colada will do wonders for your mood!

As if the natural beauty of the Loews Portofino Bay hotel wasn’t enough, the weather was absolutely perfect the entire weekend. In addition to exploring the resort and lounging by the pool, we took advantage of the close proximity to Universal Orlando. We took the boat one night to Universal CityWalk to meet our friends for dinner at Toothsome Chocolate Emporium (SO delicious, by the way), and we met up with everyone again the next morning for a day at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. I’ll be sharing our adventures in tomorrow’s blog post, so look forward to lots of photos of yummy food, theme park shenanigans, and anything/everything Harry Potter!
Harbor Nights at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel
While the Loews Portofino Bay’s proximity to Universal Orlando is amazing, you are guaranteed to find tons of amazing events going on at the resort itself. The quarterly Harbor Nights event was taking place during our weekend getaway in Orlando, and we had the best time during this festive nighttime party. Harbor Nights at the Loews Portofino Bay hotel might be my dream event. It takes place at sunset along the resort’s gorgeous waterfront plaza, and all of the hotel’s restaurants have all-you-can-eat and drink stations located throughout the event. We sampled all of the food stations at least once, and every single bit of food was absolutely divine.
I’m not sure that I could pick a favorite food station from the event because everything was just so, so good. In addition to the delicious food and drinks, we were treated to stellar musical performances throughout the evening. They had opera singers performing that could grace the world’s best stages, and the entire evening seemed even more magical underneath the twinkling stars. It was a night that I won’t forget, and I will definitely be looking into attending the next event. It’s the perfect event to spend with your friends or to plan a special date night.
