5 Easy Ways to Instantly Add Volume To Your Hair

I’ve always had extremely fine hair, but as I’ve grown older, I’ve lost quite a bit of volume. I live in the south, and big, voluminous hair is kind of our thing. I was raised with a “the bigger the hair, the closer to God” mentality, so I’m constantly searching for ways to add a little bit of oomph to my fine, thin, and oftentimes flat hair. I don’t have the time or energy to deal with flat hair or bad hair days, so earlier this month I decided to take the Pantene 14 Day challenge to give my hair some extra volume and try to have more great hair days each week.
There’s nothing better than a great hair day, so I decided I needed to go on a quest and find some amazing volumizing hair products and techniques for you guys! I’m happy to say my little experiment was a SUCCESS, and today I’m sharing a few of the tips, techniques, and products that have made a major difference with my hair- including an awesome and affordable shampoo and conditioner that gives your hair serious volume without drying it out. Keep reading to learn five easy ways to instantly add volume to your hair!
5 Easy Ways to Instantly Add Volume To Your Hair

1. Blow dry your hair upside down.
I actually learned this tip from my best friend (and former pageant queen) Stephanie. She always blow dries her hair upside down, and as soon as I tried it myself, I understood why. It gives your hair the most incredible volume, and honestly, I find it to be quite a bit easier and quicker than blow drying my hair the traditional way.
After my hair is completely dry, I’ll stand up and brush my hair out completely. Then I’ll flip back over and spritz a little bit of a lightweight hairspray underneath my hair to give my hair an extra boost of volume. Once these steps are complete, I usually add loose curls to give my hair extra texture and volume. Next time you blow dry your hair, definitely try this technique out. I think you’ll be surprised by the results!

2. Use your hair’s part to your advantage.
Ok, I’m about to let you in on my #1 secret hair tip. It’s simple, but it is honestly the BEST way to make your hair look better in seconds. Always, always, always re-part your hair throughout the day. Before I take ANY photo or head into meet people, I’ll run my fingers through my hair and push more hair over to my side part. You’ll have to play around with your hair to determine the most flattering hair part for your hair and face shape, but I always part my hair in a deep side part with most of my hair going to the left side.
If you’ve ever read a blog post of mine, you’ll probably see me running my fingers through my hair, and this tip is the reason why. I’m constantly trying to add volume by rearranging my part. I know it may seem silly, but this little tip completely transforms my hair. Try it out! I promise you’ll notice that your hair looks fuller and healthier!

3. Find a great volumizing shampoo and conditioner.
The right volumizing shampoo and conditioner can make a HUGE difference in your hair, but it can be hard to find hair products that volumize your hair without drying it out. I normally use volumizing hair products on a case-by-case basis to add some extra volume for a specific hair style or really cleanse my hair after using a bunch of hair products, but I recently found a line that’s kind of incredible. It adds great volume to my hair WITHOUT drying it out. In fact, my hair is soft, smooth, and easy to manage every time I use it!
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been taking a 14 Day Challenge with Pantene to have more great hair days. I shared my day 1 and day 7 results with you guys over on Instagram, and I have to say that I’ve been extremely impressed with my results over the entire challenge. I’ve had more great hair days AND more compliments on my hair! The key to this success is my new favorite volumizing hair products, the Pantene Sheer Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. They smell great, and more importantly, the make my hair look fabulous!

The Pantene Sheer Volume Shampoo is kind of amazing. It smells fruity and delicious, lathers beautifully, and somehow manages to leave your hair squeaky clean, volumized, and soft and smooth at the same time. Unlike most volumizing shampoos, Pantene Sheer Volume Shampoo doesn’t make my hair look dry and frizzy. It has the perfect amount of moisture to keep your hair looking beautiful without weighing it down. This shampoo gets an A+ in my book!
The Pantene Sheer Volume Conditioner also really impressed me because it magically moisturizes my hair without taking away my volume. I’m honestly not sure how they did it, but Pantene really knocked it out of the park with this product. Most volumizing conditioners barely do anything for my hair, but this one really keeps my hair soft and smooth while still remaining feather-light and voluminous. I’m a major fan of this product!
While I’ve already bragged about the formulation of these amazing drugstore volume hair products, this collection is insanely affordable too. In fact, you can pick up the Pantene Sheer Volume Shampoo AND Conditioner for less than $6 right now. SUCH a good deal – especially considering how great the products are. Buy this awesome hair volume duo from Walmart for less than $6 HERE.

4. Use dry shampoo – even if your hair isn’t oily.
I used to think that dry shampoo was only good for absorbing oil in already dirty hair, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. A few years ago, I learned that dry shampoo is just as useful on clean hair – just for different purposes. I use dry shampoo almost every time I wash and blow dry my hair to give it a little bit of extra texture and grip. The extra grip allows me to add volume to my hair, and it also gives my hair the hold it needs to keep that volume in place throughout the day.
The Pantene Pro-V Sheer Volume Dry Shampoo is a new find for me, and I love using it on clean and dry hair. It has a lightweight texture and gives my hair an extra boost of volume and texture. If you’re looking for an affordable dry shampoo that won’t leave a nasty residue on your hair, I think you’ll really like this one!
Whether my hair is clean or dirty, I just spritz a little bit of this dry shampoo on my roots and allow it to soak in for a few minutes before thoroughly rubbing it into my scalp and hair AND slightly teasing / tousling my hair with my fingers to distribute the product. As with all dry shampoos, be sure to keep the bottle at least 6-8 inches away from your hair when spraying. You don’t want to put too much product on your roots – especially when they’re already oily.

5. Train your hair while you sleep.
And here’s another tip that’s changed the game for me – style your hair while you sleep. When you’ve already put so much work into washing, conditioning, blow drying, AND styling your hair, the last thing you want to do is go to sleep and have your beautiful work ruined. Over the past few months, I’ve started wearing a loose bun to bed with one of those plastic hair elastics that look like coiled telephone cords, and it really keeps my hair volumized, curled, and in place without adding weird bumps from a normal hair elastic.
I simply grab all of my hair, bring it to the VERY top of my head, twist it slightly, and loosely wrap it into a bun. I twist the strand slightly as I’m wrapping it into a bun, and I secure the loose bun with a plastic coiled hair tie. If you want even more volume, you can spritz your hair with dry shampoo before you do this and let it sink in overnight. You’ll wake up and be completely surprised that you don’t have a crazy bedhead style!
And there you have it- five of the easiest ways to instantly add volume to your hair!
