The Golden Hour Glow: Naturally Glowy Makeup Tutorial
Thanks to Target for sponsoring today’s post!
Photographers call the hour before sunset the “golden hour” because the sun is at the perfect location to provide lighting that’s universally flattering. The light hits your face at just the right angle, and your skin looks like it’s lit from within. Recreating the golden-hour glow is my latest makeup addiction. I’ve been searching for the perfect combination of illuminating foundation, glowy setting sprays, and shimmering highlighters to give my skin a heavenly glow even when I wake up looking like I haven’t slept for a week. While I haven’t perfected my technique yet, I’ve been loving the products that I’ve discovered all the way. If you’re looking for makeup that makes you healthy and fresh instead of powdery and dull, these products are worth a look!
Instead of covering every imperfection with heavy-duty foundation, I’ve been trying to hide discoloration with a correcting concealer and even out my skin tone with a dewy tinted moisturizer. Since I’m using less coverage, I need my skin to be in tip-top shape. I’ve been using the morning and night for the past week, and I really love the effect. Despite containing 5% glycolic acid, this toner seems to calm my skin instead of irritate it. I’ve noticed less redness on my nose, and I’m starting to see improved texture around my T-zone. Pro tip: Store your toner in the fridge to add a refreshing cooling sensation to your skin-care routine! Once my toner is dry, it’s time to move onto makeup. My favorite illuminating combo so far is the topped with the in Bare Glow. I use the miracle-in-a-jar AKA the to hide my undereye circles, and the bronzer gives my cheeks the perfect rosy-bronze contour with the tiniest bit of a glow. I’ve been trying to stay away from setting powder, but I can’t resist using a small amount of translucent powder underneath my eyes to keep things in place. Another thing I’ve switched up is my setting spray. Instead of using a mattifying spray, I’ve switched to the . It contains hydrating argan oil, and I think it will give my dry fall skin the extra boost of moisture it needs. Plus, the light spray helps my tinted moisturizer and concealer sink into my skin for a more natural look. If you have dry or combination skin, I think this spray is definitely worth a try.Since I’ve been focusing on creating perfectly lit skin, I’ve been gravitating toward more natural eye makeup. The is still a favorite, and I’ve been choosing the over my normal black. For this look, I also used to achieve natural eyelashes with the tiniest hint of navy blue. This mascara is a lot more natural than my normal choice, but it’s a great change to keep the look light and fresh.
Creating the perfect lip is my favorite part of any makeup routine, and I love using a natural nude combination for this natural makeup look. The is a satin-finish lip balm with tons of pigment, and it’s a great nude lip on its own; however, a coat of the Pixi LipLift Max in Petal Ice really sets it over the top. Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t resist a glossy lip. This lip gloss is pillowy soft and has a gentle peppermint scent that makes me want to apply it every three seconds! These two lip products are definitely purse-worthy.
