My Five-Minute Makeup Routine
Keep reading to see my five-minute makeup routine.
When I was younger, I thought that moisturizing products would cause my skin to break out, so I avoided any product with the word “moisture” in the title like the plague. My mother would remind me every day that my skin needed moisture to stay wrinkle-free, but like any teenager, I didn’t listen to a word she said. And then I saw my first wrinkle, and I changed my tune in about 0.01 seconds. I immediately bought any/every product for my face in a moisturizing formula and never looked back.
Nowadays, I’m the type of girl who won’t leave the house without applying moisturizer – especially in the cold winter weather. If you’ve shied away from moisturizing products in the past, I promise you that your fears about moisture just aren’t true. If you choose the right products, you will not break out, and your skin will not become oilier. In my experience, the exact opposite situation has occurred. My oily skin normalized, my breakouts became more infrequent, and my wrinkles are much less noticeable.
So now that I’ve preached about why you need to introduce moisture into your skincare routine, let me show you show to get started. Today I’m sharing my five-minute makeup routine featuring one of my favorite moisturizers and a new line of that have quickly earned a spot in my everyday routine.
Five-Minute Makeup Routine
Now I know that I’m a beauty blogger and a self-proclaimed lipstick hoarder, but that doesn’t mean that I want to spend hours getting ready each morning. I don’t wear makeup everyday, and when I do wear makeup, I usually only have a few minutes to get ready. This quick and easy 5-minute makeup routine smooths my wrinkles, evens out my complexion, and adds a little color to my face.
I’ve been a longtime fan of the moisturizer (just bought my third jar), and I’m so happy that Neutrogena has recently released a featuring the same Hyaluronic Acid formula featured in the Hydro Boost moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid moisturizes and plumps your skin without leaving behind an oily residue, and your skin will drink it up instantly. In fact, is naturally found in your skin, and it acts as a sponge for dry skin cells. It can absorb up to 1,000 times its weight in water, so it helps your skin look smooth, plump, and supple. Keep reading to see how I got the makeup look shown above in only 5 minutes!
Step 1: The first step of any makeup look should be a quick application of moisturizer. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is a great option to wear under makeup because it moisturizes your skin without leaving a greasy residue. If you’ve never tried a moisturizer before, I guarantee that you will like this product. It’s so light and refreshing!
Step 2: Next, I use a dampened beauty sponge to apply a light foundation across my face. The is a new favorite that I recently found at Walmart, and I have been wearing it every day for the past week. It provides light to medium build-able coverage in a weightless formula that moisturizes your skin without making your face look shiny. For reference, I use the shade Nude.
I love that it doesn’t settle into my fine lines, and the oil-free and non-greasy formula doesn’t cause any irritation or breakouts on my face. If you hate foundations that make you feel like you’re wearing a mask, you will LOVE this foundation. It’s so lightweight that you can’t even feel it on your skin. This foundation is also fabulous for 5-minute makeup days because it blends into your skin without much effort. If you need more coverage in certain areas, simply pat an extra layer of foundation on the area with your finger.
Step 3: While I try to be low-maintenance with my makeup, I am incredibly high-maintenance when it comes to concealer. I tend to layer (and layer) coats of heavy-duty, high-coverage concealer on my under eye circles, but then I have to spend tons of time blending it into my foundation and layering on powders to make sure the coloring is even. I’m trying to adopt a more natural concealer look in my everyday life, the has worked really well this week. I usually blend the product in with a dampened sponge to make the process extremely quick and easy. For reference, I use the shade Fair.
The concealer has a hydrating core in the center, which allows the product to glide effortlessly along the sensitive under eye area, and the lightweight formula blends seamlessly into your skin. The level is coverage is much more natural than what I normally wear, but I just can’t get over the skin-like results. If you don’t have bad under eye circles, I really think you’re going to love this concealer. If you have crazy dark circles like me, this concealer works fabulously combined with a correcting concealer to cancel out blue tones.
Step 4 (optional): I don’t find that this foundation needs a powder, but I always find that my bronzer and blush blend easier on a powdered surface. I usually take about 5 seconds to dust a thin layer of translucent powder across my face to lock in my foundation and create a smooth surface layer.
Step 5: After my foundation and concealer are completed, I like to add moisture into my lips with a quick coat of lip balm. The is a stellar new lip balm that intensely infuses your lips with intense moisture without leaving behind a sticky residue. In addition to preventing and soothing chapped lips, a moisturizing lip balm can help you lips to appear smooth and plump. Plus, it will make your lip gloss or lipstick apply like a dream! This step can be completed during any part of your makeup routine, so be too concerned with the step five label.
Step 6: For the sixth step, I use a large bronzing brush to quickly sweep bronzer across my hairline, temples, underneath my cheekbones, and along my jawline. If you’re not sure how to apply bronzer, just draw a number three on your face starting at the middle of the top of your hairline, moving underneath your cheekbones, and then moving to your jawline.
As we move onto the final steps of my 5-minute makeup routine, keep in mind that you can customize this look however you like. If you want an even more minimal look, feel free to eliminate any steps that don’t resonate with you. You can also obviously use the colors that compliment your skin tone best; however, I’d recommend sticking with lightweight and easily blend-able formula to reduce the time it takes to complete the look.
Step 7: Since this foundation cancels out most of the natural redness in my cheeks, I like to add back a natural flush of color by sweeping a pink blush across my cheeks.
Step 8: Next, I dip a fluffy eyeshadow brush into the bronzer that I used in step six, and I swipe the color in the crease of my eye lid. If you have a few seconds to spare, you can add a lighter shade to the inner third of your eyelid.
Step 9: To finish the eye look, I apply two coats of black mascara.
Step 10: To add a healthy and youthful touch to the look, I run a tinted eyebrow gel through my brows to define their shape and naturally amplify their color.
Step 11: For the final step, I add a natural dose of color to my lips with a pink lipgloss. Over the past week, I’ve been using the in the shade Radiant Rose, which is the perfect mid-toned pink color. I’ve loved this lipgloss so much that I just picked up the shade Pink Sorbet yesterday! This lip gloss makes your lips feel soft and hydrated without feeling sticky, and the formula smooths fine lines to give a full and plump appearance.
And that’s my easy 5-minute makeup routine. If you’re in a rush to head out the door, but you’d like to look healthy and put-together, I promise you that you can achieve makeup miracles in only a few minutes if you use the right products. The key is preparation. Have your makeup all in one spot along with a few key makeup tools (beauty sponge, powder brush, bronzer brush, blush brush, and eyeshadow brush), and choose the right makeup formulas. Look for that will plump your skin to make you look healthy and well-rested and choose lightweight formulas that are easy to blend for the best results.
