A genuine smile can light up a room and instantly transform your entire look; however, your smile won’t have the same effect if your teeth are a dull shade of yellow. This month I’ve been on a mission to keep my smile bright and pearly white, and I’ve learned a few tricks that have made a big difference in the appearance of my teeth. Keep reading to learn four easy ways to get whiter teeth!
The first step may seem a little bit obvious, but I highly recommend using a really good whitening toothpaste. My personal favorite is the Colgate® Enamel Health™ whitening toothpaste. I picked up a tube of this toothpaste on a recent trip to Walgreens, and I’ve been so impressed with the results. Unlike other whitening toothpastes, the Colgate Enamel Health™ whitening toothpaste helps replenish calcium to strengthen the enamel of your teeth while gently polishing away discoloration. I absolutely love that I haven’t experienced any discomfort or sensitivity while using this toothpaste as well as the instant whitening effect. While it’s important to brush your teeth after each meal, I like to carry around a toothbrush and toothpaste in my purse for last-minute emergencies. Brushing your teeth for even 30 seconds can brighten your smile for pictures or meeting up with friends!
While keeping your teeth clean is the top factor in maintaining white teeth, you’re also going to want to prevent any future staining. A major cause of stains and yellowing is consuming dark-colored beverages like wine, coffee, tea, and soda. Everyone knows that I’m the world’s worst Diet Coke addict, so I had to find a way to still get my daily dose of caffeine without coloring my teeth. Thankfully, Stephanie had the solution to my problems: always drink dark beverages through a straw. Drinking through a straw allows the least amount of liquid to touch your teeth; therefore, you’ll get less staining!
Now that we’ve discussed how to whiten your teeth and keep your teeth white, let’s talk about a few ways to make your teeth appear even whiter and brighter! To fake the whitest smile, always choose lipsticks or lip glosses with a blue undertone. Bright fuschias, reds, and pinks will add a pop of color to your look and compliment your smile. The blue pigment of the lip products will make your teeth appear a little bit whiter, and every little bit counts!
In addition to wearing blue-toned lipsticks, I’ve found that applying a subtle highlighter above the cupid’s bow of your upper lip brings extra light to your smile. Adding this quick step to your daily makeup routine will help your lips appear to be slightly larger and will showcase your pearly white smile!
