3 Easy Ways to Style a Sweater and Skirt

My fashion philosophy has changed quite a bit over the years. I’m less concerned with the quantity of items that I own, and I focus more on the quality and versatility of the items that hang in my closet. Instead of wasting my money on trendy items that I’ll only wear once or twice, I’ve been attempting to actually curate a collection of clothing and accessories that work together. Slowly but surely, I’m adding classic pieces to my wardrobe, and it makes getting dressed each day so quick and easy. I’ll be explaining my entire wardrobe curation process in January, but until then, I thought I’d share one of my favorite tips.
Scroll through your Instagram feed, family photos, or Facebook profile pictures, and see if there any patterns to how you dress. For example, I wear dresses and sweaters with skirts all the time, so when I’m looking to invest in new clothing, I’ll buy those items instead of splurging on a cute pair of shorts that I will never wear. Once you have a few of your staple outfit styles in mind, invest in classic accessories that can be worn with all of your outfits. Today I’m sharing three classy party outfits that showcase this technique, and you’ll notice that my staple accessories, including my beautiful new jewelry from Phillip Gavriel, works perfectly with each look.
As I mentioned earlier, one of my favorite outfit styles is mixing a skirt with a sweater and a pair of heels. It’s a simple combination, but I’ve found that it’s figure-flatting, comfortable to wear, and appropriate for casual or fancy events. Plus, you can mix and match your skirts and sweaters to create quite a few outfits with the same pieces. This first look has been my most-worn holiday party outfit, but it would be just as perfect for a work day at a creative office or meeting up for dinner with friends. The plaid skirt keeps things festive, and the burgundy sweater keeps you warm and cozy in the chilly winter weather.

As much as I love the clothing in this look, my favorite part of any outfit is the accessories. Just as I have a few signature outfit styles, I also have accessory combinations that I wear over and over again. Creating an accessory “look” makes finishing a look a piece of cake. For today’s looks, I wore these beautiful burgundy velvet pumps with a classic black quilted handbag and the most beautiful jewelry from Phillip Gavriel New York.
When I’m shopping for jewelry, I look for classic and versatile pieces that will look good with a variety of looks over a long period of time. The Phillip Gavriel Popcorn Fleur De Lys Lariet Necklace is the perfect example of the type of jewelry that I gravitate towards. It has a simple but show-stopping design that’s sparkly enough for a fancy holiday party but understated enough to wear to the office. The mixed-metal details also allows me to wear the necklace with both silver and gold jewelry, so the styling options are limitless.
Similarly, the Phillip Gavriel Open Teardrop Drop Earrings look just as gorgeous with a little black dress as they do with jeans and a t-shirt. I also love that they’re extremely light and don’t pull on your ears at all. And then there’s my favorite ring of all time (besides my wedding ring, of course), the Phillip Gavriel Rhodium Finish Ring with Square Rock Crystal. Like all Phillip Gavriel jewelry, it’s hand crafted with real gold, sterling silver, and precious gemstones. This ring looks absolutely stunning with any outfit, and the craftsmanship is impeccable. If you want to purchase any of these jewelry items, you can use the Phillip Gavriel Store Locator to find an authorized retailer in your area.

My second outfit follows the same formula: skirt, sweater, and classic accessory combination. Using this formula makes getting ready for a last-minute party or dinner date so easy because you automatically know it will look good on you. I’ve worn this outfit to holiday parties, work meetings, and even a romantic date with my husband. The black-and-white skater skirt mixes with my navy off-the-shoulder sweater to create a fit-and-flare silhouette that’s figure-flatting and comfortable, and I love how the sparkly Phillip Gavriel New York jewelry just pops against the colors in this outfit! This look really shows how the Teardrop Earrings and Rock Crystal Ring glitter and shine in the light.

My third and final look is the outfit I’m planning to wear on New Year’s Eve. I know that sequin dresses are all the rage, but as beautiful as they are, I just want to be warm and comfortable as I ring in the New Year. This glittering gold skirt provides just the right amount of festive cheer and the bejeweled sweaters adds an extra dose of sparkle. Plus, my Phillip Gavriel jewelry adds some major bling-bling factor to the outfit.
The yellow gold and silver with rhodium finish Fleur De Lys Lariet necklace from Phillip Gavriel at Ross Simons‘ Popcorn collection makes my sweater looks extra glamorous, and I couldn’t walk into 2017 without wearing this gorgeous rock crystal ring. It’s so fabulous, so sparkly, and just so pretty! I honestly want to wear this ring with every single outfit in 2017, so don’t be surprised if you see it in at least one hundred looks over the next year!
If you’re not a fan of skirts, substitute in your favorite pair of pants or swap it for a pretty dress. The beauty of creating core outfits and accessory collections in your wardrobe is that you have figure-flattering, cute outfits that make you feel comfortable in the back of your head at all times. It eliminates, or at least lessens, the need to try on one hundred outfits before you leave for an event, and it guarantees that you’ll get the most value out of each of the items in your closet.
If you’re looking for a few investment jewelry pieces, or perhaps an anniversary, holiday, or birthday gift idea, I highly recommend checking out the Popcorn and Woven collections from Phillip Gavriel Jewelry. Both collections were inspired by the elegance of the Italian Renaissance, and the jewelry is hand crafted using only real gold, sterling silver, natural diamonds, and precious gemstones. They do not use any synthetic or manmade items, and the value of Phillip Gavriel is more affordable than competitor’s pieces.
I’m so thrilled with the pieces that I was able to wear, and I’m definitely interested in investing in a few of their pieces in the future. Definitely a great place to find fun items to buy for a special occasion or high-quality jewelry for everyday wear.
