Easy Boho Hair Tutorial

Spring is here, and I am all about it. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here in Florida (blue skies, light breeze, 70 degrees – AKA my idea of heaven), and I’m ready to bust out the floral prints, pastels, and Easter attire. I’m also loving this year’s feminine take on the boho / music festival trends including the easy-breezy clothing, daring makeup, and of course, the casual braided hairstyles. As much as I love an intricate updo, this mama doesn’t have the time (or talent for that matter) to create most of the music festival-inspired hair looks. Today I’m sharing a quick and easy boho hair tutorial for spring that’s perfect for everyday errands or the coolest music festival of the season!
Easy Boho Hair Tutorial for Music Festival Season
Step 1: Prep Your Hair

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about hair in the past few years, it’s that you have to prep your hair correctly to get the results you want. If I’m just going to curl my hair or throw it into a ponytail, I’ll opt for ultra-moisturizing hair products and drench my hair in every hair oil and shine serum I can get my hands on. If I did my normal routine for today’s look, my hair would slip out of the style in 10 seconds flat. If I’m planning to attempt any sort of up-do or just want to have a little bit of texture to my style, I’ll always switch up my hair products.

My first step is to switch out my normal moisturizing shampoo for a volumizing formula. The TRESemmé® Thick & Full Shampoo works like a charm for this type of look. The PH-balanced formula gently cleanses away impurities and leaves my hair squeaky clean, so I can get a little bit of extra volume in my look. When I use a volumizing shampoo, I always follow up with a smoothing conditioner to keep frizz at bay. The Suave® Keratin Smoothing Conditioner contains keratin to seal your hair cuticles, and it leaves my hair silky smooth. Plus, it smells delicious!
After washing and conditioning, I’ll blow dry my hair and add soft curls with a 1″ curling iron. This step is totally optional, but I like how the curls look with this look. It would look equally adorable with straight or naturally wavy hair!
Step 2: Add Volume and Texture

You may be noticing a theme here: volume, volume, volume. Maybe it’s just the Southern girl in me, but I think all hair styles look better when the volume is kicked up a notch! My hair is thin to begin with, but it’s been extra thin since I’ve had a baby. I like to amp up the volume with a quick spritz of dry shampoo. I’ve been a fan of Dove’s dry shampoo for years, and I’ve been loving their latest version lately! The Dove Go Fresh Coconut Dry Shampoo absorbs your hair’s excess oil to revive your style in between washes, and the fresh scent is perfect for the spring season.
In addition to volumizing my ultra-fine hair, dry shampoo gives my hair the perfect amount of texture and grip to keep my hairstyle in place all day long. If I’m planning any sort of braids or up-d0, dry shampoo is key to preventing my fine hair from falling out of the braid in seconds. If you need to grab a new bottle of dry shampoo for spring, head to your local CVS. Through March 10th, you can get select Dove hair care products for buy 1, get 1 50% with your CVS card. Plus, you’ll get $3 in ExtraBucks® Rewards when you buy any two Dove hair care products!
Step 3: Boho Half-Up Braided Hair Style Tutorial

Once your hair is prepped, volumized, and texturized, it’s time to add a little bit of boho flair. I prefer a more subdued look, but feel free to customize this look to your style preferences.
1. Take a small section of hair from the side of your head near your ear and braid it about 3/4 of the way down before securing with a clear elastic band. Repeat on the other side. I wanted to keep the braids simple this time, but it would also look lovely with big and chunky braids if you prefer that style!
2. Wrap both braids to the back of your head and secure with a clear elastic band.
3. Grab a small section of hair from each side of your head, wrap it around to the back of your head underneath the braids, and secure it with a clear elastic band.
4. Take a small section of hair from underneath the half-up ponytail, wrap it around the clear elastic band, and tie a knot.
5. Continue wrapping around the hair from the knot around the ponytail and secure with a clear elastic band or bobby pin.
6. Pull apart the braids and wrapped hair to add volume and perfect the look.

The thing that I love about this boho-inspired hairstyle is that the messier your hair is, the better it looks, so feel free to pull apart your braids, fluff the wrapped section of your hair, and mess up your curls! This style is casual and laid-back, so there’s no need for perfection! In addition to the easy-breezy look, this hair style will keep your hair out of your face all day long in the sunny weather.
If you’d like to customize this look even further, you could add extra or bigger braids at the top or a braid underneath the wrapped section. You could even finish this entire look and secure the remaining hair into a fishtail braid for an ultra-impressive hair style! Customize the hair style to fit your outfit, mood, and of course, your skill level!
