How to Blow Dry Your Hair Like A Pro
There’s nothing better than walking out of a salon with freshly blown out hair. For years I tried to imitate my hair stylist’s signature blow dry techniques, but I always ended up with poofy, messy locks and a round brush stuck in my hair. Thankfully after hearing my hair horror stories, my stylist took pity on me and gave me a crash course in the art of blow drying. While it’s still nice to get my hair professionally done every once in a while, the ability to get a salon-quality blowout at home saves me so much time and money! Step 1: Prep Your Hair & Add Product
After washing your hair without your favorite shampoo and conditioner, use a gentle brush to detangle your hair and apply your desired styling products. Choose the styling products you use based on your hair type and your desired look. I like to create a smooth and voluminous hairstyle, so I apply volumizing mousse to my roots and a few drops of hair oil to the ends of my hair. Right before I blow dry my hair, I’ll also spritz my locks with a heat protectant spray.
Step 2: Blow Dry Your Hair 80%
Once you’ve finished applying all of your products, it’s time to begin drying your hair. I have very long hair, so it would take ages if I used a round brush to dry my hair from start to finish. For the first few minutes, I’ll use my fingers to separate each section and begin the drying process.

Step Three: Section Your Hair
Now that your hair is mostly dry, take a hair clip and section off the top half of your hair. Creating two sections of your hair allows to accurately target specific portions of your hair like a real pro.
Step 4: Round Brush
Once my hair is about 80% dried, I’ll continue the drying process with a round brush. For this look, I wanted to achieve a smooth, straight, and voluminous look, so I used a large barrel round brush. If you want to create a tighter curl, simply use a smaller brush! I’ll change the settings of my Infiniti Pro 3Q Brushless Motor dryer to medium speed and high heat and begin blow drying small sections of my hair.
The technique is a simple four step process. Simple place the round brush underneath the roots of the section of hair that you’re blowdrying. Run the brush along the lengths of hair and follow with the blow dryer. Then slowly roll your hair around the brush and curl it up towards your head. Once the hair is fully curled around the hairbrush, allow the warm air of the blow dryer to set the curl for a few seconds. Gently unwind the hair from the brush and move on to the next section. Once the first layer of hair is completely dried, remove your hair clip and dry the top section.
