The Best Skincare Products for Women in Their 20s
When it comes to beauty products, I’m an all-or-nothing kind of gal. I either wear a full face of makeup or nothing at all. The same rule applies to skincare. Some weeks I can’t be bothered to do anything more than remove my makeup at night, while sometimes I give myself a mini-facial each morning and night. For the past few months, I’ve been in an “all” kind of stage with skincare. I’ve loved creating a custom skincare combination each week to fit my skin’s needs for that particular time period. I’ve been testing out dozens of new products and mixing and matching cleansers, serums, moisturizers, and masks to create the perfect potion to cure my skin’s problems.
Today I’m sharing the products that made the final cut to help you create the perfect skincare routine, and I’m focusing on skincare products that are perfect for women in their 20s. In this age range, we’re still worried about breakouts, but we’re also terrified of developing fine lines and wrinkles. I’ve listed a few of my favorite products in each skincare category that target both of these problems, so you can pick and choose which products sound like a good fit for your skin’s needs. P.S. You can enter to win $125 worth of new skincare products at the bottom of this post!

Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum*: After my first spa facial, I became completely obsessed with serums. It’s so much fun to mix and match products and create the perfect skincare regimen for your skin’s exact needs. My skin is fairly normal, but it feels dry and tight when I’m indoors and oily when I’m outdoors in the heat. This constant battle between being too dry and too oily makes me gravitate towards moisturizing products that soak into the skin quickly without leaving a greasy residue behind. This serum from Caudalie does the trick. Its oil-free formula contains grape-seed polyphenols and grape water, which work to improve your skin’s ability to retain moisture. I love this serum’s beautiful scent, and the formula makes my skin feel smooth and soft.
* (full review here): This serum contains hyaluronic acid, botanical glasswort, sea fennel, flaxseed, and a probiotic complex to deeply moisturize your skin. While this product is incredibly hydrating, it feels like you’re spreading water over your face. It’s very light and not greasy at all. In my opinion, a few drops of this serum will make any other serum, moisturizer, or mask work better. I like to add 2-3 drops of this booster serum with another moisturizing serum and a brightening serum to create a skincare cocktail that’s perfect for my skin. Such a great product!
*: This product reminds me a lot of the , but it has a thicker, more gel-like consistency. It contains hyaluronic acid, anti-aging peptides, collagen, and colloidal oatmeal to moisturize and plump your skin. I use it to beef up other serums or moisturizers, and I also like to apply a bit of this serum on top of my forehead wrinkles before applying my moisturizer. This extra step helps to plump my fine lines and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It’s truly an amazing serum!
Elizabeth Arden Superstart Skin Renewal Booster*: This product is another hyaluronic acid- based serum booster, and it’s ah-mazing. It boosts your skin’s moisture content, smells incredible, and magically makes your other skincare products more effective. I mix 1-2 pumps of this product with my Elizabeth Arden Flawless Future Caplet Serum to create a hydrating concoction that makes my skin look fabulous without feeling greasy. This serum instantly soaks into your skin and doesn’t leave behind an oily or sticky residue. You’ll quickly become addicted to how this product feels on your skin. P.S. I’m giving away a full-size bottle of this product at the bottom of this post!
Elizabeth Arden Flawless Future Caplet Serum*: This serum is another winner. The serum’s mini-beads are activated when the serum is dispensed from the bottle, and the lightweight formula adds moisture, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, and evens your skin tone. This lightweight gel feels like you’re spreading water on your skin and absorbs quickly. I like to combine this product with the Elizabeth Arden Superstart Skin Renewal Booster and Paula’s Choice Resist Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum when my skin needs a quick dose of moisture and nutrients. It Cosmetics Confidence in A Cream Transforming Moisturizing Super Cream*: Wowza, this stuff is good…and by good, I mean LIFE-CHANGING. If you’re only going to buy one product from this post, buy this one! It Cosmetics developed this moisturizer with a team of plastic surgeons, and they packed the product full of some of my favorite skincare ingredients: collagen, hyaluronic acid, peptides, caramides, antioxidants, and colloidal oatmeal. After using this moisturizer daily for several months, I can safely say that I will never be without this product. It makes my skin so soft, and it plumps up my fine lines and wrinkles unlike anything I’ve used before. If you’re looking for a moisturizer, I’d highly recommend picking up this superstar product from It Cosmetics. If you’re on the fence or just don’t want to splurge on a full-size product, it’s also available in a sample-size version.
*: This gel moisturizer is a cult classic for a reason. It’s really, really good. I love using this moisturizer underneath foundation or even mixed into my foundation to create a smooth, flawless finish. The oil-free formula hydrates your skin and creates the perfect canvas for your makeup. If you have combination, oily, or blemish-prone skin, this moisturizer is going to be your perfect fit.
*: If you’re looking for a daytime moisturizer with SPF and anti-aging ingredients, this new release from L’Oreal is really nice. The formula contains glycolic acid, vitamin C, and pro-retinol to keep your skin exfoliated and wrinkle-free, but the light formula won’t leave you feeling shiny or oily. This moisturizer works well under makeup, and the light citrus scent is divine.
L’ORÉAL Revitalift Bright Reveal Dual Overnight Moisturizer*: This moisturizer is the big sister of the . It features the same core ingredients (glycolic acid, vitamin C, and pro-retinol), but in a slightly more moisturizing formula. It’s intended for nighttime use, but I personally think it works just as well during the daytime. The container dispenses one pump of moisturizer and one pump of serum at the same time, and the resulting mixture is extremely hydrating without being sticky or greasy! If you’re in the stage of your 20s where you want to prevent wrinkles but don’t want a heavy moisturizer, you will fall in love with this product. It has the perfect mix of moisturizing, anti-aging, and exfoliating ingredients, and it will make your skin look and feel fantastic.
Caudalie Vinosource Intense Moisture Rescue Cream* and Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet*: I’ve been using Caudalie skincare for years (proof: my 2012 blog post – have fun laughing at the horrifically bad photos), and their products continue to impress me. These moisturizers contain a signature blend of organic grape water, grapeseed polyphenols, and Vinolevure to soothe and restore your skin’s moisture levels. The Intense Moisture Rescue Cream is a thick cream designed for very dry skin, and the Moisturizing Sorbet is a gel-cream suitable for oily to normal skin types. I love use the Moisturizing Sorbet along my T-Zone and adding the Intense Moisture Rescue Cream to my forehead and cheeks. This combination provides the perfect level of moisture for my combination skin.
Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream*: This luxurious eye cream is absolutely dreamy. The creamy formula contains resveratrol-oleyl to lift and firm the delicate skin around your eyes along with grapeseed polyphenols and Viniferine to brighten your skin. The skin underneath my eyes looks hydrated and smooth, and I haven’t had any eye irritation from the formula. I dab a small amount of this product underneath my eyes and brow bone each morning and night, and it’s quickly become one of my all-time favorite eye creams. While I tend to alternate the products that I use on a daily basis, I’ve been using this eye cream every single day for the past two months. If you’re in the market for a moisturizing eye cream with a lightweight feel, Caudalie is a wonderful choice.
Pixi H2O Skindrink Pure Hydration Gel*: This product is kind of amazing. The formula features green tea, aloe vera, rosemary, and a lightweight gel texture that instantly soaks into your skin and provides a slight cooling sensation. It reminds me of a thicker version of the . It’s the perfect moisturizer for hot summer days, and it also doubles as a fantastic primer underneath your foundation. If you have combination-oily skin, you’re going to ADORE this product.
Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Hydrating Shield*: Skincare products can’t reverse the damage that’s already been done to your skin, so it’s important to protect your skin from the elements on a daily basis- especially the sun. I try not to leave the house without applying sunscreen, and the Elizabeth Arden Prevage line provides legendary protection. The new City Smart Hydrating Shield features SPF 50 along with pollution and UVB protection from their DNA Enzyme Complex. This combination of ingredients protects your skin from pollutants in the air and 98% of UVB rays, but this product isn’t just a sunscreen. It’s more like a combination of a luxurious moisturizer, antioxidant serum, and a high-tech sunscreen. If you have normal to dry skin and want serious sun and environmental protection for your face, this product is incredibly indulgent.
Paula’s Choice Resist Youth-Extending Daily Mattifying Fluid* (full review here): If you have normal, combination, or oily skin, this sunscreen/moisturizer might change your life. The texture is thin and watery, and it instantly absorbs into your skin and leaves behind a matte finish. Your skin will be lightly hydrated and protected with SPF 50, but you won’t be able to feel any product on your face. It’s the lightest sun protection product I’ve ever used, and I’d highly recommend this product for all of my friends in Florida. It works well in any climate, but the matte formula really shows its strength in hot and humid weather.

Simple Micellar Make-Up Remover Wipes: Makeup remover wipes are incredibly convenient, but it can be hard to find a formula that actually removes your makeup without stinging your eyes. I’ve found the new Micellar wipes from Simple to be extremely effective at removing makeup, and I haven’t experienced any irritation on my eyes or face. These wipes are also fantastic for cleansing off excess oil or sweat on warm days. If you have sensitive skin, definitely pick up a pack of these makeup remover wipes.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water & Makeup Remover: The new Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is another fantastic makeup remover. The oil-free formula feels like water on your skin, and it easily washes away makeup at the end of the day. I also love using it as a quick morning or mid-day cleanser/toner on busy days. I’ll just pour a small amount of the Micellar water onto a cotton pad and rub it across my face to remove excess dirt, oil, and sweat. If you hate the feeling of oily makeup removers or have sensitive skin, you’ll love this product.
Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water*: This product is a basically a fancy version of the Garnier Micellar water, but I am addicted to the scent. I mean, how can I resist orange and lemon blossoms, watermelon, and mint leaves? It removes light makeup without leaving a greasy residue, and it doubles as a lightweight toner. If you have sensitive skin, I’d stick with Garnier since that product is fragrance-free. If you’re a fan of Caudalie’s signature light fruity scent and don’t wear waterproof makeup, you’ll love this cleansing water.
Caudalie Make-Up Removing Cleansing Oil*: People tend to think that you only need to use one cleanser; however, anyone who uses makeup really needs to cleanse twice. The first cleanse removes the makeup from your skin, and the second cleanse removes dirt, oil, and build-up from your pores. If I’m in a hurry, I’ll use a makeup remover wipe or cleansing water as a first cleanse; however, if I have the time, I love using this cleansing oil. I apply this mix of sunflower oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil, and grapeseed oil onto dry skin and massage across my face to breakup my makeup. Next, I’ll add a little bit of water to emulsify the oil, and I use a washcloth or muslin cloth to remove my makeup and any excess oil. I always follow up with one of the cleansers mentioned at the beginning of this post to really deep clean my pores, but this cleansing oil is a luxurious first cleanse. It breaks up makeup effectively and adds an extra touch of moisture to my skin. I wear a lot of eye makeup, so I usually need to follow-up with a bit of Micellar water to remove the last remnants of my mascara. I know the idea of applying oil to your skin sounds a little scary, but I promise that the second cleanse will remove any excess oil! If you wear heavy makeup or waterproof products, a good cleansing oil will make removing your makeup so much easier.

Pixi Glow Mud Mask*: OMG, I love this mask. Pixi nailed it once again. The kaolin, sea salt, ginseng, and aloe vera-based formula draws out oil from your pores, combats breakouts, and leaves your skin feeling clean and refreshed. Unlike some mud masks, this product does not dry out my skin. It just makes my skin look better! As the bottle suggest, it’s really a 15-minute mini-facial. LOVE this product.
Clinique Even Better Brightening Moisture Mask*: When your skin needs a mega-dose of moisture, this Clinique masks does the trick. The luxuriously thick formula leaves your skin unbelievably smooth and soft. I like using this mask after traveling, but it’s also wonderful for re-hydrating sun-damaged skin.
Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask*: I’m going to warn you, this mask is addictive. This lightweight gel products transforms into a bubbling foam as it sits on your skin, and it feels absolutely incredible. I’d use this mask every day if I could! The formula is packed with vitamin C, vitamin, grape seed extract, aloe, green tea, rice bran, sodium PCA, and CPR oxygen technology to leave your skin bright and glowing. Seriously, such a fun product.
Yes to Coconut Ultra Hydrating Facial Mask*: I’ve been told my several makeup artists and aestheticians that pure coconut oil is the best heavy-duty moisture treatment, but it can be a bit messy to work with. This Yes to Coconut mask provides all of the benefits of coconut oil in a more user-friendly format. If your skin is feeling tight or dry, this moisturizing facial mask will re-hydrate and plump your skin within a few minutes.
Hydrogel Eye Masks: After falling in love with the 100% Pure Bright Eyes Mask* (not pictured), I’ve become obsessed with hydrogel eye masks. They work all sorts of magic on your under eye area and help you look a little bit younger and more awake. The 100% Pure version contains aloe, green tea, green coffee, yerba mate, vitamin C, caffeine, and hyaluronic acid, and it makes me look like I got an extra few hours of sleep. Plus, it feels cool and refreshing while the hydrogel masks are sitting on my skin. You can read my full review of this product here. I recently tried out the from my Birchbox, and they are equally delightful. The hydrogel eye pads are soaked in a serum containing pure collagen, and they work to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I noticed visible plumping, and of course they feel heavenly while they’re on. I highly recommend checking out both of these eye masks for special occasions!
Sheet Masks: If you don’t like the mess of face masks, you should try out sheet masks! The LEADERS Daily Wonders What Happened Last Night Revitalizing Mask* contains ginseng and Artemisia extract too boost your skin’s radiance after a long week, and the* features anti-aging and hydrating ingredients to plump fine lines and wrinkles. I loved using both of these masks, and I will definitely re-purchase! I’m also a big fan of the 100% Pure Ginseng Collagen Boost Mask and Green Tea Water Bomb Mask (not pictured). They’re hydrogel masks soaked in tons of amazing nutrients for your skin, and they feel cool and refreshing on your face. You can read my full review on these masks here.
*: Clay marks really excel at combating blemishes, blackheads, and clogged pores, and this new charcoal and clay mask from L’oreal is one of the best at the drugstore. The mask goes on as a thick and dark gray cream, and it dries to a slightly lighter gray matte finish. As the mask tightens on your face, you can see dark gray spots where it’s drawing out the oil from your skin. I love using this mask to bring breakouts to the surface and to dry up existing blemishes.
L’ORÉAL Purify & Mattify Pure-Clay Mask*: This pale green mask is similar to the L’ORÉAL Detox & Brighten Clay Mask, but I find it to be slightly less drying on the skin. This mask deep cleans your skin, leaving it refreshed and tightened with minimized pores. I love to use this mask to remove build-up at the end of a long week and then follow-up with my favorite hydrating serums and moisturizers.
L’ORÉAL Exfoliate & Refine Refine Clay Mask*: If you’re looking for a clay mask that’s less drying and more exfoliating, this red mask is really good. It’s infused with red algae extract and fine bits of volcanic rock to buff away dead skin. I like to apply this mask about 15 minutes before I get in the bath or shower, and then I scrub it off in the water. It’s a great product when your skin is looking dry and flaky.
As you can see, I’ve been busy testing out skincare products! All of these products have made a positive difference in how my skin looks and feels, and I hope that you love each product just as much as I do. Each item on this list is a perfect skincare choice for women in their 20s who are beginning to fight visible signs of aging while also battling breakouts and blemishes. These products will keep you skin clear, soft, and firm, and most of the products have a lightweight feel and no heavy residue! If you’ve tried any of these products or have a holy grail skincare item that you think I need to try, please leave a comment with your thoughts/suggestions.

Makeup Removers

Face Masks
