Quick & Easy Heatless Hairstyles for Long Hair
Heatless Hairstyle Prep + Necessary Equipment:
To achieve the best results with these easy heatless hairstyles for long hair, you’ll want to prep your hair properly. You’ll want to make sure that your hair is completely detangled, so take extra care when you’re brushing your hair. I like to use a Tangle Teezer or The Wet Brush to get rid of every last tangle in my hair. The last two tools you’ll need are hair elastics and bobby pins. I prefer using clear hair elastics for these hairstyles, so that the attention is on the style and not a giant hair tie. Technically any bobby pin will work for these styles, but I highly recommend using bobby pins that match your hair color. These blonde bobby pins are a long-time favorite of mine, and they also come in darker shades for brunettes. If your hair is freshly washed, I also recommend using a small amount of dry shampoo or texturing spray to add a bit of grip to your hair for the braided styles. The extra texture will make your hair less slippery and easier to style. I love using the Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender http://bit.ly/2stD5jM for this step. I picked it up during my last trip to Hair Cuttery, and I’ve been using it non-stop ever since. If you have thick and course hair, this step may be unnecessary; however, if you have thin and fine hair like me, adding grip to your hair will make a world of difference for the braided no-heat hairstyles!
Twisted Half-Up Half-Down Hairstyle
This twisted half-up half-down hairstyle is a personal favorite of mine. It literally takes one minute to complete, and it’s a cute way to pull your hair away from your face in the summer months.
Step 1: Use a hairbrush or your hands to brush your hair back towards the crown of your head. While you’re brushing your hair back, be sure to place it exactly how you’d like it to look when the hairstyle is completed.
Step 2: Take a small section of hair from each side of your head and secure them together in a ponytail with a .
Step 3: Bring the ponytail away from your head to create a hole between the ponytail and the rest of your hair. Use your fingers to push the ponytail through this hole and pull it down. By creating this topsy-turvy ponytail, you’ll add a fun twist to the side pieces.
Step 4: Use your fingers to fluff the twisted sides of the ponytail to create volume and texture. I like to pull apart the pieces close to the hair elastic.
This simple half-up half-down hairstyle is unbelievably quick and easy, and it’s the perfect way to look pulled together in a hurry. I like to wear this hairstyle when my hair is freshly washed or the day after its washed. If you’d like to make this hairstyle more intricate, you can braid each piece that you pull back off of your face.
Faux Braided Ponytail
I am the worst at braiding. It doesn’t matter if I watch hours of YouTube tutorials or get my friends to explain the process to me over and over again, I just can’t seem to get the hang of intricate braiding techniques. That’s why I love this hairstyle so much. It mimics the look of a fancy braid without any actual braiding. This faux braided ponytail is the perfect style to wear when you need to look pulled together but don’t want to spend hours styling your hair.
Step 1: Complete steps one through three of the twisted half-up half-down hairstyle tutorial shown above.
Step 2: Repeat this process as many times as you like until the remainder of your hair resembles a ponytail.
Step 3: Fluff each twisted ponytail and pull out the sides to create a faux braided effect. The more you pull out each piece, the better it will look!
While I love how easy this no-heat hairstyle for long hair is to create, my favorite part is that it looks even better as the day goes on. Somehow, the messier it gets, the more romantic it looks. Your friends and co-workers will be so impressed with this style, and they won’t believe that it isn’t a real braid.
Faux Messy Fishtail Braid
If you’d like to take your faux braided ponytail to the next level, you can continue the same technique to create a fun faux fishtail braid without any actual braiding.
Step 1: Complete all of the steps in the faux braided ponytail tutorial shown above.Step 2: Continue the technique of creating additional flipped ponytails down the entire length of your hair.
Step 3: Secure the braid with a clear hair elastic and fluff and pull apart each section until it’s full and messy.
I like big braids that are extremely messy, so in my opinion, the more you pull apart this style, the better it looks. If you want a more full braid, I recommend using clip-in hair extensions before beginning your hairstyle.
Braided Messy Bun
If you want to extend the life of your faux messy fishtail braid an extra day, you can easily transition the style into this braided messy bun. It’s a soft and romantic style that takes less than a minute to finish.
Step 1: Complete the faux fishtail braid tutorial shown above, or you can create a simple braid and pull apart the pieces.
Step 2: Wrap the braid around its base and secure with a few bobby pins that match your hair color.
Step 3: Use your fingers to fluff and pull out some of the hair on top of your head to add volume.
This braided messy bun comes together in less than a minute, and I think you’ll love the results. This no-heat hairstyle is perfect for hot summer days where you want to get your hair off your face but don’t want to spend too much time styling it. Plus, it can easily be a second or third-day hairstyle for any of the styles shown above.
