How To Get Ready in Under 20 Minutes! {My Morning Routine Tips and Tricks}
I am not a morning person. Every single morning, I have the same thoughts in the same order.
1. I don’t want to get up.
2. I don’t want to go to work.
3. I don’t want to get ready.
After this thought process, I immediately start thinking about how I can shorten my morning routine, so that I can sneak in even one more minute of precious sleep. After years of practice, I have gotten pretty fast. I can pick out my outfit, style my hair, and put on a full face of makeup in twenty minutes. Honestly, I am also usually eating breakfast and watching a YouTube video or two during this process.
Now, don’t get me wrong. This routine is not my going out, full-on glamazon routine, but it’s completely appropriate for work, school, or day-to-day errands.
Shower at night.
If you really want to speed up your morning routine, showering/bathing at night will give you some much extra time in the morning!
Think ahead.
As soon as I get up, I plug in my curling iron. Even though styling my hair is one of the last steps in my routine, the curling iron needs time to heat up. Planning ahead for each step of your routine will help you shave off extra seconds! Another great tip is to pick out your outfit, accessories, and shoes the night before.
Streamline your makeup routine.
Like every girly girl, if you give me three hours to get ready, I can find something to do for every second of that time; however, on a normal morning, I don’t have the time or energy for complicated makeup. If you can apply false eyelashes at 7am, you have my eternal admiration. I am not that girl. On a normal day, I like to look put together but not too done up. First, I’ll pop some concealer over any blemishes, redness, and my undereye circles, and I’ll then set the concealer with powder or mineral foundation. For my eyes, I apply a champagne creme eyeshadow and use a fluffy crease brush to apply a neutral brown to the crease of my eye. A quick swipe of bronzer/blush, lots and lots of mascara, and and a dab of neutral lipstick or lipgloss later…I’m done!
Find a go-to hair style and perfect it.
In the Florida heat and humidity, there is absolutely no way that I can wear my hair straight on a daily basis. I also don’t have the time or talent to make a fancy updo. My curling iron is by far my favorite styling tool for super fast hair styling. I take 2-3 in sections of my hair and wrap it quickly around my curling iron to smooth out my ends and add a bit of movement. To finish curling my entire head of hair, it only takes about 5 minutes. I don’t get a super curly look, but it has just enough style and movement that people think you spent time styling it.
Find products that help speed up your routine.
When you’re pressed for time, you may have to find products that work specifically for your morning routine. For example, I have extremely dry skin on my legs and arms, but I never had time to apply lotion in the mornings. Not only is lotion messy and time consuming to apply, but most of my lotions also take at least ten minutes to soak into my skin. If you’ve ever tried to put on skinny jeans after applying lotion to your legs, you know that this is a major problem in the morning.
Every time I peak in a mirror at work, I regret the decision to flaunt my dry and flaky legs. I was lucky enough to receive the opportunity to try the Vaseline Spray & Go moisturizer recently, and it’s a game changer for me. I have tubes and tubes of lotions in my closet, but they sometimes go unused because I don’t have time to apply the lotion or wait for it to sink into my skin. I love the Aloe Fresh variety’s fresh scent and light consistency. I spray my arms and legs and rub in the product, and it takes 15-30 seconds flat. It’s funny how such a little step can make such a big difference. Now I don’t have to worry about someone noticing my scaly legs!
My new miracle worker! I highly recommend the Aloe Fresh scent. It won’t clash with your perfume, but it still smells fresh and light. Also, the Aloe Fresh formula is non-greasy and absorbs quickly.
