Family, friends, food, and football are at the top of any good Southern girl’s list of priorities. My family basically lives for college football season, especially the Florida State Seminoles. Both of my parents are proud FSU alums and brainwashed convinced me that FSU was the best team in the world. Although I don’t understand all of the rules or technicalities, I love football games- especially when I get to watch the game in person and especially when my favorite team is playing.
Ok, so now that you know my background, you can understand why I was absolutely thrilled to get the opportunity to attend the BCS National Championship (Thanks Dad!). In addition to arguably being the most exciting football game of the year (Superbowl is #2 in my book), my favorite team was playing in my one of all-time favorite SoCal cities! After running around my apartment in excitement for a solid hour, I got down to serious business- packing and planning!
With nearly 100,000 people attending the game, I had to be prepared for any mini-emergency that came my way because there was basically no way out of the stadium after entering…and we were going to be there all day long! With the cramped space in the stadium, there was no way I could bring a normal handbag filled with all of my essentials, so I made my version of a “football game survival kit” to add to my Florida State backpack!
Being a girl can be really inconvenient at times. For example, having your period while you have to be squished next to over 90,000 people isn’t fun. There’s absolutely nothing worse than being stuck without feminine protection when you really need it. I wasn’t going to take any chances during the games, so I brought out the big guns. My favorite tampons and liners (just in case). I am so happy that I brought these girly essentials because they definitely came in handy (no details needed), and I became the most popular game attendee in my row. One poor girl was whispering amongst the crowd if anyone had a tampon, and after I came to the rescue I gained a bit of a reputation among our section of the crowd. I had at least two other ladies ask me for “supplies.” I’m happy that U by Kotex helped me and a few other die-hard Seminole fans catch every second of the football game without having to worry! The second absolute essential that I brought with me was hand cream. It may seem prissy or overly fancy for a sporting event, but the hand cream saved my hands from the cold weather and chilly winds!
There’s no way to be part of such a massive crowd and not get bombarded with germs. I added hand sanitizer to my bag to protect myself from nasty germs, and a package of tissues and headache relief medicine just in case I felt sick during the game. A mini bottle of saline solution got thrown into the bag as well in case my contacts decided (as they often do) that they didn’t like me that day.
So why does a girl need to look cute at a football game you ask? Well, this event wasn’t your ordinary football game. It was the national championship, and it was an event that I probably won’t ever get the chance to attend in the future. It was basically the photo-op of a lifetime, so you better believe that I wanted to look on point for the entire game! Concealer, pretty pink lip gloss, and powder foundation were no-brainer additions. To combat my oily skin, I threw in a mini bottle of refreshing facial toner and a few oil-blotting sheets. The last two additions to my mini makeup kit are things that I never leave the house without: amazing lip balm and a few hair ties. Honestly, if you are anything like me, you probably have different lip balms, tampons, and hair ties in every bag you own. They’re absolute lifesavers!

To keep everything organized and to leave room for souvenirs, I put all of my items into a cute drawstring bag!
I successfully survived the incredibly fun but overwhelmingly crowded tailgate event along with what seemed like at least a million Seminole fans. I swear, I’ve never seen that much garnet and gold clothing in my entire life!
If you saw the game on TV, you know that all four quarters were extremely stressful for FSU fans. Our team was getting clobbered by Auburn and slowly caught up with a few amazing plays in the second half of the game. While I may have had a few mini-heart attacks from the game play, I was confident that I was protected in the girl issue department. I had everything I needed to enjoy the game in style.
Like I said, I’m a really big FSU fan, so I was just a little bit excited that we won! If you’re a girly girl like me, I highly recommend that you make a little kit like mine for game days or any important event in your life! If you’re making your own kit, hop on over to grab a !
Are you a football fanatic too? What do you keep in your purse during big events?
