Perfect Neon Nails {A Step-By-Step Tutorial}
I am a 90s kid at heart, so my love for neon runs deep. As beautiful as neon nail polish can be in the bottle, they tend to be dull and lackluster on the nails and chip quickly if you don’t apply them the right way. Here’s the easiest way to get your neon nail polish to show up true to color on your nails and resist chipping!
Step One: Apply Base Coat
Any base coat will do, but I am currently having a love affair with and its sister, (top coat). The base coat will help your nail polish stay in play for an extra day or two. Also, please excuse my cuticles.
Step Two: Add White Polish
Adding a layer or two of white polish will help the neon polish really pop and ensure optimal neon-ness. Lately I’ve been reaching for my .
Step Three: Choose your Favorite Neon Nail Polish!
Now for the fun part! Go through your nail polish collection and choose your favorite neon polish. My all-time favorite neons are Face Stockholm (Sadly it was limited edition for JCrew), Orly Fancy Fuschia, Orly Glow Stick, , and Orly Va Va Voom! Obviously, I think that Orly makes some incredible neons, but I’ve been tempted to pick up !Today I reached for , an incredibly bright neon tangerine cream polish. I wish my camera would show how intense this color really is. It is NEON and way brighter in person.
I can’t have a post on neon nail polish and not show off Orly’s Glow Stick. This polish is the definition of neon, and while you may think it’s a little scary in the bottle…just put it on your nails. I get more compliments on this nail polish than almost anything I own.
Step Four: Add a Glossy Top Coat
Neon polishes tend to have a dull matte finish, so add your shiniest top coat! I’m so happy that I finally decided to try . It’s life changing- thin, super easy to apply, and incredibly shiny.
And that’s it! I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July with your friends and family! Let me know if there are any neon nail polishes that I need to add to my collection!
