Mother’s Day Gift Idea for New Moms: The New Mom Survival Kit
Since this year is my first time celebrating Mother’s Day as a mom, I’ve found a new appreciation for Mother’s Day. Of course, Mother’s Day is your chance to positively spoil your mom rotten, but it’s also a day to celebrate all of the mothers in your family and circle of friends. For the past few years, I’ve made it my personal mission to try to make all of the moms in my life feel special on Mother’s Day – including grandmothers, aunts, in-laws, stepmother, and friends. These women have given so much love to their families, and they deserve their day of recognition.
With Mother’s Day only a few weeks away, I thought I’d share a fun gift idea with you. Today I’m showing you how to create a cute Mother’s Day gift for new moms, and it’s an absolutely perfect gift idea for expecting mamas-to-be as well. I like to call it a “new mom survival kit” because it has everything a new mom needs to survive a day with her little one in style! This Mother’s Day gift is easy and affordable to put together, and it can be tailored to your friend / family member’s personal style. Keep reading to see how to create this easy Mother’s Day gift basket!
When you’re shopping for your New Mom Survival Kit, there’s no reason to spend an arm and a leg or head to a million boutiques around town. You can find everything you need for this gift basket on your weekly Target run! Before you head out, be sure to create a list of a few of her favorite items, so you can create a shopping game plan!
If you’re not sure where to start, you can do exactly what I did. Mother’s Day Gift Idea for New Moms: The New Mom Survival Kit
The first, and in my opinion, most important part of the New Mom Survival Kit is a pretty Mother’s Day card. New moms and expecting moms need encouragement and support more than anything else. Let your sister know she’s doing an awesome job raising her baby. Tell your friend that she’s going to be the world’s greatest mom. We don’t always take the time to share these thoughts with our friends and family, and I promise you it will mean the world to them to hear a few kind words from someone they love and respect. I picked up a bunch of gorgeous Mother’s Day cards at Target last week, and I’m determined to handwrite a heartfelt message in each and every one.
Once you have your card picked out and ready to go, it’s time to start collecting a few more items for your New Mom Survival Kit. While this Mother’s gift idea can definitely be personalized, I highly recommend including a cute pair of pajamas in your gift basket! After all, who doesn’t appreciate cuddly sleepwear? I found these adorable lemon-print pajamas at Target when I bought Mother’s Day cards for family and friends, and I knew they’d be the perfect fit for this gift. Whether your loved one just had a baby or has a little one on the way, I guarantee they will appreciate a little bit of cozy luxury.
We all know that new moms get little to no sleep, so it’s important to make the few hours of sleep they do get count. A silky eye mask blocks out the light from baby monitors and night lights, so your friend will have a much better chance of sinking back into slumber after a nighttime wake-up call (or two or three) from her baby.
Even though we’ve included soft pajamas and a silky eye mask to help the new mom in your life get the best sleep she can, she’s still probably going to be tired. That’s why I recommend including an extra-large tumbler, thermos, or coffee mug, so she can indulge in some much-needed caffeine wherever she may need to go throughout the day. Plus, a large cup doubles as a great way to track water consumption for nursing moms. If you want to make your gift basket extra special, you could fill the cup with a package of her favorite fancy coffee or tea!
While most of the items in this Mother’s Day gift idea for new mamas are practical, there’s no reason why they can’t be luxurious and fun as well. It’s easy for a new mom to dedicate nearly all of her energy to taking care of her baby, so treat her to a little something special that’s all for her! Some of my favorite beauty indulgences are lipgloss, lipstick, and perfume in fancy packaging. Look for wearable everyday shades and scents in ultra-fancy packaging. She’ll feel extra-special and spoiled!
Another practical item to include for new mamas is a chewable jewelry item. I know what you’re thinking. Chewable…what? Here’s the scoop: babies chew on everything, and I do mean everything – including jewelry. Thankfully, there are tons of stylish jewelry options available made with materials that are safe and comfortable for babies to chew on, so your friend/family member won’t have to think twice when her little one starts gnawing on her necklace! I found this adorable pink and white marble chewable teething bracelet at Target, and they had quite a few styles available in the baby section of the store.
Of course, no gift would be complete without a little something sweet. For me, the ultimate indulgence will always be chocolate truffles, but feel free to choose whatever type of sweets your loved one enjoys the most. Do try to find a unique flavor or fancy packaging to make the experience extra-special!
For the last item in my New Mom Survival Kit, I chose this beautiful gold initial bracelet. While any small piece of jewelry will be appreciated, I’d recommend looking for jewelry that features her child’s name, initials, or monogram. This bracelet features the first letter of my daughter Summer’s name, and it makes me smile whenever I look at it throughout the day.
And there you have it – a fun, beautiful, and unique Mother’s gift idea for the new moms in your life. Any new mama or mama-to-be is guarantee to LOVE this New Mom Survival Kit, especially since you can custom tailor it to her preferences and needs. While I love the personal touch this gift provides, I also love how easy and affordable it is to put together.
If you’re looking for a place to shop for Mother’s Day gift ideas, definitely head to Target. Target is and will always be my one of my favorite stores in the entire world because their stores are always clean, well-organized, and stocked with the cutest items for the lowest prices. While I was picking up Mother’s Day cards in their greeting cards aisle, I found this adorable card for Summer’s grandma. I know she’ll be so touched to receive her first Mother’s Day card from her first grandchild. Be sure to check out the Target App for a Cartwheel offer on Mother’s Day greeting cards between 4/29 – 5/13.
No matter what, take the time to give the moms in your life a word of encouragement and a big hug this Mother’s Day. Your love and support mean more to them than you’ll ever know.
