When life gets crazy, sometimes you just need to plan a fun trip with your girlfriends. Stephanie, Christina, and I have been working non-stop for the first half of the year, so we decided the we deserved a relaxing girls weekend in Key West. As soon as we unpacked our bags at the beautiful Gates Hotel Key West, it was time to start plotting our weekend adventures. Our first stop? Lilly Pulitzer’s Key West store, of course!
The Key West store is 100% Lilly. The shelves are filled with bright colors, sunshine is streaming through the windows, and the cheerful employees are always available with welcoming smiles and shopping advice! The tropical and light-hearted atmosphere of Key West is the perfect location for Lilly’s playful prints, so it’s not a surprise that the Key West store was Lilly Pulitzer’s first corporate store!
As soon as we arrived in the store, we were treated to a history lessons from one of the store’s employees. Rocco taught us so many fun facts about Lilly Pulitzer- including the story behind the store’s location. Across the street from the Key West Lilly Pulitzer store is a tan building. While it’s now utilized for something else, it was previously home to the fabric printing factory where Lilly Pulitzer signature prints came to life! Lilly herself used to hop on a plane to Key West to pick up her fabulous fabric, so the store location across the street was a natural choice for the first corporate location!
The Key West store wasn’t solely based on convenience of location, though. The Florida Keys is home to gorgeous ocean views, tropical greenery, and amazing wildlife. The bright colors and whimsical attitude of Key West definitely inspired Lilly’s original work, and the happy vibe of the city couldn’t be a better fit for the brand.
While we loved learning about our favorite brand’s history, we were there on important business: SHOPPING. Stephanie and I naturally had to try on everything in the store (only a slight exaggeration), and we restrained ourselves from buying every single item that we tried on. We both picked up dresses and accessories for our Key West vacation, but we made a wish list with roughly 100 other items that we need to buy before the summer is over!
Aside from the delightful employees and fabulous clothes, my favorite part of any Lilly Pulitzer store is the dressing room! The Key West’s store signature toile room didn’t disappoint, and I solemnly vow that my future home will have a closet that looks exactly like this gorgeous room!
