A year ago, I made a goal for myself to say yes to more opportunities and to truly challenge myself. Well, I’ve succeeded. I’ve been saying yes a LOT- maybe even a little bit too often. Last minute auditions an hour away? No problem! Moving six times in two years? Absolutely! Spontaneous travel plans? Why, certainly! While I feel extraordinarily blessed and exhilarated every time I get an exciting opportunity, I feel a little crazy when my daily to-do list is too long to fit in my 8×11″ jumbo-size agenda. Sometimes it’s hard enough to remember to breathe, let alone find time to fit in a healthy meal. On my busiest days I have to set alarms to remind myself to eat, but normally I start to notice the reactions on other people’s faces when I’m turning into a hangry (hungry + angry) monster. I simply grab my secret weapon out of my handbag: Life Choice Bars. They’re affordable, delicious, and help me transform from a hungry lunatic back into a normal and happy girl.
Do I look happy in this picture? Well, I was, and the reason was only partially due to the absolutely perfect 78-degree-with-a-light-breeze LA weather. Let’s just say that the day that this photo was taken perfectly summarizes my life lately: frustrating, chaotic, and incredibly hectic.
My day started at 4am. The previous night of packing and last minute errands had ended at 2am. Obviously, the two hours of sleep really left me energized and in a glorious mood for my early morning flight to California with my husband. Then, things got even better (total sarcasm). We barely made it to the airport on time. Both of our bags were overweight. I forgot my phone charger. As we ran towards the gate, I realized that I hadn’t eaten anything in nearly ten hours. The early morning, exhaustion, and hunger start to kick in. Normally at this moment, I’d immediately think about the consequences of spending $20 on overpriced coffee and calorie-filled breakfast pastries from the fancy coffee shop at the airport and decide whether it’s worth the loss of money and the extra time in the gym- but not that day. Thankfully, I’d discovered the busy girl’s secret weapon earlier that week: Life Choice bars. I knew that I had a healthy, delicious, and affordable meal stashed away in my handbag, so I brushed off the day’s chaos and boarded the flight just on time.
Earlier that week, I’d stopped by Walmart to stock up on some essentials, and I picked up a few boxes of Life Choice bars to stash in my kitchen, my car, my office, and my purse. I tucked a few bars in each location to prepare for mini food emergencies like my early morning airport fiasco. I knew that my schedule would be insane over the next few weeks, and I did not want to fall into the trap of wasting money and unnecessary calories on greasy fast food and overpriced quick restaurant options. For less than the price of three drinks at the coffee shop, I was able to purchase nearly twenty healthy meals and snacks! Now, I don’t have to worry about having time to fit in much-needed proteins, fiber, and vitamins/minerals. I always have a Life Choice bar nearby, so that I can get a quick boost of energy even on my busiest days.
As I sat down in my tiny seat in the coach section of the airplane and realized I was sitting in front of two incredibly loud talkers, I resisted the urge to scream. I knew that as soon as I stepped off the plane, I’d need to rush to pick up my rental car, navigate through LA traffic, and somehow manage to look and feel good for my business meeting and blog shoot. Instead of having a meltdown, I simply put my headphones in, started The Office on my iPad, and ate my Life Choice White Chocolate Pretzel meal replacement bar. Call me simple if you’d like, but a few episodes of The Office and a yummy snack are all it takes to make me smile and forget the stress of the day. Four hours later, I arrived in LA and after eating a Life Choice Energy bar in Chocolate Fudge Brownie and putting on a little a ton of concealer and mascara, I was ready for a meeting, blog shoot, and a fun afternoon with friends. Ok, ok..I also added a pair of tortoiseshell sunnies after seeing my tired face in our car’s mirror. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, but I felt energized and ready to seize the day!
I used to stress over little things like this situation, but now I try to find easy and affordable solutions to my problems. My schedule may be overwhelming at times, but I want to be able to enjoy the moment and be truly grateful for every single second of my amazing life. It’s impossible to be in the moment when you’re caught up in all of life’s little problems. If I want to have time and energy to focus on what really matters (friends, family, love) and finish all of my responsibilities at work, I have to find ways to reduce stress and keep myself healthy. That’s one of the main reasons why I love Life Choice bars. They’re a simple solution to one of life’s problems. It may seem like a little change in your daily routine, but easy access to healthy snacks and meals can greatly increase your energy levels and prevent you from getting into the drive-thru line each afternoon.
With four amazing flavors including White Chocolate Pretzel for meal replacement (yum), Chocolate Fudge Brownie for energy (double yum), Double Chocolate for protein(delish), and Fudge Graham for wellness (s’mores perfection), it’s easy to resist fast food and my sugary weaknesses (candy, donuts, and pastries)! Plus, at less than $4 a box, Life Choice bars help me worry less about money. You can find them exclusively at Walmart, so don’t forget to pick up a box (or four like I did!) on your next grocery trip.
I know that my life will only get busier as I get older and take on new challenges in business and life, so for now I’m attempting to respectfully follow in the footsteps of all of the wonderful, strong women in my life with schedules and stresses far busier than mine. By finding little ways to add some sanity back into my crazy life- like the addition of Life Choice bars to my daily routine-, I’ll have more time and energy to enjoy each and every second of my crazy life.
What’s your food of choice on crazy busy days? How do you deal with the stress of life’s little problems?
