How To Survive Sick Days With Bigelow And Walmart + My Peach Raspberry Arnold Palmer Recipe

2013 has apparently been the year of the cold for me. It seems like I’ve had the sniffles and a sore throat at least once a week. I’ve been sick so often that I feel like I’ve become a bit of a pro at sick days. I obviously don’t enjoy feeling miserable, but I’ve found a way to get through the day and feel a bit better! I somehow always end up at Walmart when I’m sick because they have everything I need: tea (lately I’ve been loving the Bigelow brand), lemons, honey, cough drops, and fun little things to cheer me up! With cold and flu season in full swing, I thought it would be a good idea stock up on some of my essentials during my last trip to Walmart. Keep reading to learn my best tips on how to get through a sick day. Plus, I’m sharing my recipe for a Peach Raspberry Arnold Palmer!
Step One: Stock Up On The Essentials
The second I start feeling sick, I head to store (usually Walmart because they have EVERYTHING) and stock up on everything I could possibly need. You don’t want to wait until you’re really sick to realize you don’t have the proper supplies! Earlier this week, I was a sniffling, coughing mess, so I knew that I’d need cough drops and tea.
Tea is amazing for soothing sore or scratchy throats, and I swear it has some sort of magical restorative property. I was thrilled to see the huge selection of Bigelow Tea at Walmart because their flavors are delicious, and the price is hard to beat! I love this brand of tea because I am never disappointed with their flavors, and the tea is high quality despite the low price! It’s called #AmericasTea for a reason! I researched which flavors to get on the Bigelow Blog and Bigelow Tea website. I fully understand this makes me a huge tea nerd!
Luckily, I had all of the ingredients I needed on hand: Bigelow Tea in Perfect Peach and English Teatime, honey, powdered sugar-free raspberry lemonade mix, and a lemon.
Served iced in my beloved Tervis Tumbler (Go Waves!), this drink is out-of-this-world delicious and is easy enough that even a sick person can make it with great success.

Cough drops are another essential. My grandmother always carried Halls Triple Soothing Action cough drops in the Honey-Lemon flavor in her purse, and I’ve gotten in the habit of doing the same. The menthol in the cough drops helps to quiet my incessant coughing and calm my sore throat.
I picked up four boxes of Bigelow Tea in a variety of flavors. Ok, maybe I got a little carried away, but a sick girl needs some variety in her life!
I also threw three packages of Halls Triple Soothing Action cough drops in my cart. I’m a long time fan of the Strawberry and Honey Lemon varieties, but I’d never seen the Tropical Fruit variety before. Naturally, it hopped into my basket as well.
I was all set to checkout, when I saw this adorable Santa mug. I tried to resist, but how can you say no to a face like that and a $2 price tag?
I couldn’t just leave Santa’s penguin friend at Walmart, so he came home with me too!
Step Two: Create A Relaxing Environment
When you’re sick, the best thing you can do is take some time to relax and let your body use its energy to recover and heal. I featured my ideal environment in the opening picture of this post: warm and cozy blankets, a softly-burning candle, soft lighting, and a warm cup of tea! My sick day tea of choice has been Bigelow Tea’s I Love Lemon herbal tea with Vitamin C. I add honey and lemon to the hot tea to soothe my coughing and sore throat. Throughout the day, I just try to listen to my body. I try to get as much sleep as possible, pop a Halls cough drop if my coughing gets out of control, and continually stay hydrated. If I can’t sleep my distractions of choice are reading on my Kindle, catching up on my friends’ blog posts, or having a Netflix marathon. On my most recent sick day, I’m ashamed to say I watched an entire season of Sons of Anarchy. It’s not my fault the show is so addicting!
Now as much as I love my soothing hot tea, it’s still in the 80s here in sunny Florida. I can only drink so many hot drinks before I start to feel like I’m going to melt. I was starting to feel better halfway through the day, and I had a vision of the most delicious, refreshing iced tea-lemonade. I looked through my recent purchases and had a brilliant idea for a recipe: a sugar-free Peach Raspberry Arnold Palmer!
