How to Find Your Bra Size
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Jockey. All opinions are 100% mine.
While I’m far from being a professional stylist or makeup artist, I tend to think that I’m fairly well-versed in the worlds of beauty and fashion. As a teenager, I’d study fashion magazines like they were textbooks, and I’d watch any / every interview with beauty or fashion experts that I could find on TV. Since I’m such beauty/fashion nerd, I was shocked to learn that I have been making a major style faux pas for practically my entire life. I have been wearing the wrong bra size for at least ten years…if not longer.
I’ve been meaning to get professionally fitted since I was a teenager, but the process just seemed so awkward and embarrassing. I never knew which person conducted fittings at the store, but even if I did, I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to step into a fitting room with a total stranger and let them examine my chest. So each year when I bought a new bra, I’d do what most women do. I’d grab a few sizes, try them on, and buy whichever one seemed right. Unfortunately, my ideas about how a bra was supposed to fit were far from correct. Thankfully, I’ve given myself a Bra Fitting 101 course, so I’m now semi well-versed in the world of bras. Today, I’m sharing what I’ve learned and teaching you how to find your bra size at home. It only takes a few minutes, and it’s not the least bit embarrassing.
How To Find Your Bra Size
The traditional method for finding your bra size involves calculating your band and cup size. You can find your band size by measuring underneath your bust, and your cup size is determined by measuring the fullest part of your bust and then subtracting your band size and converting the numbers to letters. For example, if your band size is 32, and the fullest part of your bust measures at 35 inches, the difference is 3 AKA a C cup. Unfortunately, the traditional method of bra sizing doesn’t take into account that everyone’s body is shaped differently. That’s why I was interested in trying the RealFit® Kit, which also measures your breast volume and shape for a better fit. Plus, you can complete the entire process in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
The process is extremely quick and easy. The first step is to order a RealFit® Kit online for $19.95. The cost will pay for itself because you’ll get $20 off your first bra, but you can also use promo code ASHLEY10 to get $10 off your kit! The kit comes with 10 volumetric fit cups, a color-coded measuring tape, and easy-to-follow instruction manual. Once my kit arrived in the mail, it only took a few minutes to get my correct size. I used the measuring tape to find my band size, and then I tried on the volumetric fit cups to find my correct cup size. Much to my surprise, I’ve been wearing a band size that’s too big and a cup size that’s too small. The process is super quick and easy, and you can also watch a step-by-step fitting video by visiting Jockey.com/FitVideo if you want to see the process in action. While the RealFit® Kit can only be ordered online, you can also get fitted at any Jockey store.
How to Tell If Your Bra Fits Correctly
I used to think that bras were supposed to fit like they do in a lingerie ad. Wrong! Those ads are designed to be flashy and don’t show how a bra needs to fit for comfort and support. A well-fitting bra shouldn’t have spillage out of the top or sides of the cups, and the band should lie flat on your chest. If you can see bulges or noticeable lines between your bra and your bust through your clothing, you’re probably wearing the wrong cup size. Similarly, if you are already on the tightest setting of your bra’s brand after a month, you’re wearing the wrong band size. When you first buy a new bra, the band should fit on the loosest setting, so that you can gradually move to the tighter settings as the bra’s fabric stretches out. When you’re wearing the correct size, you’ll notice that you’ll experience less discomfort, and you’ll look better in all of your favorite shirts, sweaters, and dresses.
The RealFit® Bra by Jockey line has five bra styles to choose from with each style offered in 3 colors. After finding my correct bra size, I quickly placed an order for two Jockey® T-Shirt RealFit® Bras and a Jockey® Wire-Free Unlined RealFit® Bra. I was anxious to see how the bras would fit and how they’d look underneath my clothing, and I have to say that I wasn’t the least bit disappointed. The Jockey® T-Shirt RealFit® Bras are the only underwire bras that I own that don’t irritate my skin throughout the day thanks to the patented Comfort Wire that molds to your shape over time, and the smooth finish that they provide looks great underneath all of my clothing. If I’m just lounging around the house, I usually wear my Jockey® Wire-Free Unlined RealFit® Bra. Since it’s unlined, it provides less coverage, but it’s perfect for when I work at home. It provides just enough coverage and support to keep me comfortable. All of the bras are high-quality and well-made, and I can see them lasting for quite a long time.
Now that I have bras that actually fit, I feel silly for waiting so long to find my correct bra size. If you struggle with bras that aren’t flattering or comfortable, definitely try this simple method and let me know how it works for you. If you want to find your perfect size, use promo code ASHLEY10 to get $10 off the RealFit® Kit through 11/30! You’ll also get free shipping with any $59+ order, free exchanges, and their Try It. Wear It. Love It!™ Guarantee. If you’re not head-over-heels in love with your bra, you can exchange it or get a full refund – even after you’ve worn and washed it.
I’d love to know if you’ve discovered that you had been wearing the wrong bra size too, or if I’m the only one. Let me know your bra fitting mistakes or any funny stories from getting fitted in a store in the comment section below.
