Sneak Peek of My Home Office
After moving over a dozen times in the past 8 years for school and work, I am so happy that my husband and I are finally settled into our new home. I loved our semi-nomadic lifestyle, but it's so nice to have the chance to actually unpack our boxes and organize our things. As soon as we moved in, my first priority was to set up our home office. For years, my "office" was basically two boxes that sat on a bookshelf, but now I have 3/4 of a room - including a closet - all to myself. It's kind of amazing. Since my business is beauty and fashion, my "office" is basically an oversized closet, but it does have a desk in it...so it's still business-y, right? I'm slowly filling in the space with decor, but I couldn't resist giving you a sneak peek of what I've done so far!
My favorite part of my office is my bookshelf because it holds all of my favorite items: sparkly jewelry, colorful makeup, and my favorite home fragrance products by P&G Unstopables! I'm still playing around with the layout and design of my storage, but I'm going for a playful and girly vibe with hints of old school glamour. I strategically chose the white shelving, so that I could have a lot of fun playing around with adding pops of color and varying textures.
While I would like my office/closet to be pretty, at the end of the day it still needs to be functional. Nate Berkus, one of my favorite interior designers, recommends adding in salvaged vintage pieces into your home decor to give any room extra personality without spending too much money. I couldn't agree with this philosophy more, so I decided to re-purpose my great-grandmother's serving trays into jewelry storage. The worn gold surface and classic design reminds me of something that you'd find in an old-fashioned Hollywood dressing room, and I love how they look displayed on my shelves. I'm also a fan of re-purposing storage containers for new purposes. I store my makeup brushes in a rotating desk organizers meant to be used to organize office supplies, and I house my lipgloss collection in a gift box!
In my opinion, a room isn't complete without a fragrance. It may be my inner candle addict talking, but I feel like home fragrance is a reflection of my personal style. A scent can change the entire mood of a room in the same way that lighting and design can! Since I am completely ADD when it comes to scents, I have a whole shelf dedicated to my P&G Unstopables home fragrance collection. I like to layer the scents to create a custom fragrance. This week, I've been spritzing the Unstopables Air Refresher spray in Shimmer each morning to spruce up the room, and then I burn the Unstopables Candle in Lush on my desk throughout the day. The combination of Shimmer's fruity/floral notes and Lush's gentle vanilla lavendar scent is perfection!
As I mentioned earlier, my office is also my closet, so it houses all of my clothing and accessories. Since I'm a total scent junkie, I also like to layer fragrances on my clothing. Nate Berkus always says that small, thoughtful touches can transform any room into your own personal haven. Whether you add a small vase of fresh flowers, add a fun statement pillow to your bed, or spray your clothes with a fragrance, the little touches add up and showcase your personality in the space! To keep my clothes extra fresh with a girly scent, I use the Unstopables In-Wash Scent Booster in Shimmer every time I launder my clothes. The scent booster infuses fabrics with a sophisticated scent, and the scent can linger for up to 12 weeks out of storage! Once a week, I'll also spritz the Unstopables Air Refresher into my closet to revive the scent and freshen my clothes. It may seem like a simple step, but it makes a huge difference. Every time I open my closet, I'm greeted with an inviting fresh fragrance.
I'm putting the finishing touches on my home office this month, and I can't wait to share the grand tour with you soon!
