Get Ready with Me: Date Night
Today’s post is brought to you by Crest 3D White.
I remember when I was asked on my first date, I spent hours getting ready. I wanted to look like someone else, so I bought brand new clothes and makeup that were completely different from my day-to-day wardrobe. In my mind, I felt like my new purchases would help me transform from a normal high school student into a glamorous supermodel, but I quickly learned my mistake about fifteen minutes into my date. My dark smoky eye and tiny miniskirt did look like an ad from a magazine. My dramatic eye shadow kept smearing, and my skirt needed constant adjustments to prevent a major wardrobe malfunction. I felt uncomfortable and anxious throughout the evening, and I wasted my time worrying about how I looked instead of getting to know my date.
Over the years, I’ve learned how to prevent this type of catastrophe. I want to feel confident and comfortable on date nights, so I choose hair, makeup, and clothes that help me feel like the best version of myself instead of a girl from a magazine. Today I’m sharing a simple and naturally pretty makeup look that’s perfect for date night. It highlights your strengths without hiding your natural beauty, and it only takes a few minutes to complete.
The first step of my preparation for date night (or any important event) is to apply Crest 3D White Luxe Professional Effects Whitestrips to my teeth. When I’m on a date, the last thing I want to worry about is the state of my smile. The whitening process only takes 30 minutes, so I can have a visibly whiter smile by the time I’ve selected an outfit and finished my makeup.
Once my Whitestrips are applied, I like to even out my complexion with tinted moisturizer and conceal my undereye circles with a brightening concealer. Then I use a large brush to buff powder foundation or translucent powder into my skin. By layering these three products, my makeup locks into place, and my skin looks smooth and even for hours.
While the first step of my makeup routine hides any blemishes or discoloration on my face, it also leaves my skin looking one-dimensional. I like to use a matte bronzer around my hairline, underneath my cheekbones, and around my lower jawline and neck to give a healthy summer glow to my face. Be sure to blend the bronzer thoroughly to remove any harsh lines. Once my face is lightly contoured, I dust a shimmery coral blush on the apples of my cheeks and champagne my highlight to tops of my cheeks for a naturally lit-from-within look.
Since I’m keeping the rest of my makeup light and natural, I like to add a little bit of drama with my eye makeup. Using warm-toned brown eye shadows in my eye look provides a gentle contrast with my eye color, so my blue-green eyes really pop. 1. The first step in this eye look is to blend an orange-toned, medium-brown eye shadow into the crease of the eyelid with a fluffy brush. 2. Next, I’ll use my fingertip to pat a shimmery, medium-brown eye shadow across my entire eyelid from the lashes up to the crease. 3. Then I’ll deepen the look by buffing a slightly deeper, warm-toned brown eyeshadow into the crease of my eyelid with a fluffy brush. 4. The final step of this easy eye look is to use a small pencil brush to a dark, shimmery brown eyeshadow to the outer corner of the eye. This easy, four-step eye look makes my eyes appear bigger, brighter, and more colorful. After my eyeshadow is complete, I shape my eyebrows with a tinted eyebrow gel and apply three coats of lengthening and volumizing black mascara.
I like to keep my look natural on date nights, so I skip the red lipstick and opt for a subtle nude lip color. While the right shade of nude lipstick can make my lips look full and pouty, it also has a tendency to make my teeth look dull and yellow.
Thankfully, by the time I reach for my nude lip gloss, the Crest 3D White Luxe Professional Effects Whitestrips have already worked their magic, so my teeth look bright and white against even the palest nude lipstick.
After my Whitestrips are removed, I apply a quick coat of pink-toned nude lip gloss to add a subtle dose of my color to my face before curling the ends of my hair with a curling iron and throwing on my outfit.
As I mentioned earlier, I want to feel comfortable and confident on my date night, so that I can devote my energy to enjoying the day instead of constantly re-adjusting a short skirt or worrying if my top is flattering my frame or not. Now that the weather is bright and sunny, my husband and I have been spending as much time as possible enjoying the sunshine. Whether we’re headed to lunch by the beach or walking around a local shopping center, a sundress and wedges is always my go-to outfit choice.
Lately I’ve been loving this embroidered white sundress paired with simple gold accessories and sky-high wedges. I love how the navy embroidery slightly slims my frame, and the flowy skirt is accented with the cutest little pom-poms along the hemline.
I love that this simple date night look gives me an extra boost of confidence, so that I can feel like the best version of myself. While this outfit and makeup is what makes me feel comfortable, I encourage you to find your own power look for date nights.
