Book Worm: Hunger Games Mockingjay
I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Lions Gate. I received a book, products, and a promotional item to thank me for participating. #Mockingjay
I know that I normally write about girly clothes and my favorite lipglosses, but I am really just a nerd in disguise. My love for books is only rivaled by my love affair with Diet Coke, so you know it’s a serious addiction. When I find a book that captures my attention, it completely takes over my life. I will not rest until I’ve read every single page of the book, and if the book is part of a series- well, bye-bye productivity. I’ll re-read some of my books again and again, and my bookshelf is packed with novels that are falling apart at the hinges and marked with highlighters and scribbled notes. Like I said…I’m a total nerd. Needless to say, I get pretty excited when my favorite books are turned into movies, and tonight is the premiere of the film adaption of one of my all-time favorite books. Hunger Games Mockingjay: Part I tells the first half of Katniss’ epic battle with President Snow and the Capital. If you’ve read the books or seen the first two movies, you’ll know that this movie is going to be action-packed and completely thrilling. I’m so excited that I’ve already practiced how to achieve Katniss’ signature side braid, and I have my Mockingjay pin laid out and ready to wear!
I discovered The Hunger Games a few years while I was stocking up for a camping trip. My husband and his best friend had convinced me to accompany them on a camping trip in the California mountains I was terrified that a giant bear would eat me as I slept, so I knew that I wouldn’t be sleeping much. I figured that I might as well pick up a book to read each night, and the book turned out to be the highlight of the trip. Only two hours after we arrived at our camping location, it started to rain. We raced into our tent, but the tent began to leak a bit as the temperatures dipped into the low 40s. Naturally, none of us could sleep due to the miserable conditions, so I decided to read the book out loud. The boys thought it was such a silly idea, but after reading the first chapter they were completely hooked. We took turns reading the book aloud, and we finished the book by the next morning…and we bought Catching Fire, the second book in the series, on the way home to LA and read it front to back in one day.
Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay is the third novel in The Hunger Games trilogy, and it’s sold over 65 million copies in the U.S. alone! The book is divided into two movies, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I begins right after Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) shattered the games in Catching Fire. Katniss wakes up in District 13 and begins the journey to rescue Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and destroy the Capital. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, but trust me when I say that you need to see this movie!
The movie is directed by Francis Lawrence with a screenplay from Danny Strong and Peter Craig, and the trailer looks AWESOME.
I’m heading to the premiere this evening, and I will proudly be wearing Katniss’ signature side braid as well as my Mockingjay pin! #TeamKatniss all the way!
Are you going to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I this weekend? Have you read the books?
P.S. I totally used a white rose in the picture to add a creepy element for the die-hard Hunger Games fans. Like I said- total nerd.
