Heading to college for the first time can be an exciting time, but it can also be incredibly stressful. Between moving away from your friends and family, scheduling classes, choosing a major, and learning your away around your school’s campus, an incoming freshman has plenty to worry about. That’s why I want to make one of the most stressful parts of college a little bit easier. Today I’m sharing a college packing list of everything you’ll need to bring with you to your new dorm room or apartment. Of course everyone is going to have a few things that aren’t on this list, but this packing list covers all of the basics!
Ok, I know that my list has a lot of items; however, I can guarantee you’ll need almost every single one of these items throughout the year. I was an RA in my school’s dorm for two years, and I had at least one student knock on my door every single day asking to borrow something- usually around 2 am. (SIDE NOTE: Do not knock on your RA’s door in the middle of the night to ask them stupid questions. Stupid questions include: “Can I borrow your microwave to make popcorn?” or “I don’t like my roommate’s perfume. Can you ask her to stop wearing it?”) You don’t want to be that kid. Print out this list before you shop for school supplies at Walmart and keep it by your suitcases as you pack, and you’re guaranteed to make it to your dorm room with at least the bare essentials to survive the school year on your own!
I won’t lie. Shopping for paper plates and trash bags isn’t too exciting, but I always loved shopping for back to school beauty supplies! Every semester at school meant a chance to try out a new shampoo and a different lip gloss, but there were some products I bought over and over again including the Schick® Quattro For Women® and Schick® Hydro Silk® disposable razors from Walmart! Having smooth legs always made me feel more confident on the first day of school (no one wants to be the hairy kid), and the Schick® disposable razors for women have never disappointed me. One more RA tip: buy disposable razors. Your roommates can and will steal your razor, and you’re probably going to want to throw them away often. I’d recommend keeping any bath items you don’t want or share in a bath caddy in your closet, but even then you can’t be sure. Let’s just say I heard some very strange stories during my time at college, so just trust me…buy the Schick® disposable razors while you’re at school. They work extremely well, and they’re affordable enough to throw away on a regular basis!
