I complained about the work load and the stress, but I thrived under pressure and couldn’t bear to take anything off my schedule.

As a child growing up in Florida, I lived in sandals. The only closed-toe shoes I owned were sneakers for sports, patent-leather Mary Janes for church, and ballet/jazz/tap shoes for dance class. The sandal craze continued into high school where everyone wore sandals every day – no matter what. We didn’t care if it was 40 degrees outside. We wore sandals.
